The rear brake on my RR6 is horribly wooden. The pads are new HH spec and the fluid was changed by the dealer when I bought it... The rear disc appears to be an eBay special. Could that be the problem? There's no feel or power until the brake suddenly locks. Bit crap really...
Rear brake????? sorry not with you, what is it? and what should it do? Sorry, seriously it probably is the disc, I'd be tempted to get an oem one off e-bay, like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CBR...585998?hash=item25b5a9ad4e:g:OdcAAOSwu4BVrnuW £30 quid well spent.
I doubt the disc as mine felt wooden with OEM and aftermarket discs! More likely the calliper needs a good clean and perhaps new seals
I agree with sps above - I'd first be checking the caliper to see that's working properly. Also new pads will take a while to bed in properly, particularly on the rear.
Yeah agreed about checking caliper and bedding in pads, but personally I'd still want a decent known brand disc. Chinese s**t is alright for bling bits, but for anything functional I'd stick to oem or a recognised aftermarket brand.
Haha! Yeah, I know what you mean. I would have agreed with you but you don't know what you've got 'til its gone! Mark
I've been de-blinging the bike since I got it. Horrible £20 shorty levers which went back to the bars before working and a disgusting anodised rear wheel nut have gone, as has the cheapest set of 'carbon' kick plates I've ever seen. Floppy like a spaniels ears... To be fair, the anonymous front discs seem to work okay but I don't think they're e-bay jobs. Mark
I had the same problem on my 600RR and a galfer wavy disc and ebc pads sorted it right out. Not got round to doing the rear disc on the blade yet but it's on the list
By way of closure... As advised I bought an OEM rear disc off eBay. It only has running in mileage on it and is barely marked. Fitting became a little tricky when one of the bolts rounded out so I torqued everything back down and got it fitted when I took the bike in for tyres. The result is that I now have a functioning rear brake. It's still not that special but it does provide useful and controllable retardation. It certainly made a difference on my flying visit to Aldeburgh on Wednesday. That A1120 is fun at this time of year, especially midweek.
Just thought I'd add my tuppence worth...my 06 rear brake is pretty poor too, to be fair i only use it in traffic/car park situations or when the roads looks slippery with diesel or ice, it has the feel and squeaks like a wooden brake too. Does the job though can't be bothered cleaning it out until time comes to change pads. Was wondering if anyone actually uses the rear in normal riding conditions?
