Anyone put upgraded kits in there bike? More so has anyone put different makes on there bike such as a ohlins rear shock then k tech front cartridges.
Just asking because there is a used set of Maxton 30 mm cartridges not selling on eBay and was wondering if its worth putting a very low bid onto it since I have an ohlins rear shock

I know @Gilesy has an ohlins shock and Matris cartridge inserts on his 06/07 model and rates how it feels

If it's the advert with cartridges and shock I'd go for it! Could always sell the shock to get at least half the money back or have a spare shock

Problem your Going to have Is you need to have the correct tools and knowledge to know what your doing, Spring rates and stacks and valving, oil weights and so much more! Even if you go down the cartridge route it can still be a headache... Personally I would Speak to K Tech and ask them what options are available ....

You won't have any issues mate. Good suspension works regardless if they are mismatched.

If I was going to go for that set my plan was to send them off to Maxton to get new springs ect and get them to fit it

and just remember you will have to have a slight modification to your internals to except the cartridge kits anyhow
Maxton still turn out some great stuff! And like Colin said there's no issues with mixing stuff up....

The springs are a piece of piss to change on cartridge kits mate. They are made that way for quick changes.
No need to even remove the forks from the bike.

Unscrew the top cap of the forks, push down the front of the bike till the locknut is showing and then remove the top cap.

Springs just sit there and you can pull them out and replace with the springs your after.

Are the big piston forks not different? I heard something about them being at the bottom of the forks my original idea was to just replace the springs for my weight and new rear shock. I've heard the big pistons are mint with a spring in them. It was a it of a wild card choice when I seen the cartridge kit there with no interest in it

    Hi mate

No I didn't bother with the T-Drives. Still have plenty of life in the OEM's yet. I'll wait till I need them and upgrade then.

Not sure on the big piston forks with the cartridge kit and how easily the springs can be changed in those. Sorry mate.

As for the big piston forks I really liked those on the Gixxer 750 and didn't have any complaints. Worked well considering.

See I don't have any real problems with them either just upgrading the whole set up to be fair instead of buying the new bike. Of anything comes up I'll get it but its looking like springs for my weight the now.
I'm sure the bike wasn't made for a 15 stone 9 bloke lol

See as many race bikes with mix and match as you do matching, good stuff is good stuff and set up right you be fine....

I got a set of ohlins gas cartridges cheap otherwise I would have been mixing and matching myself.

Maxton stuff is ace.... Had front end done on r1 and was brilliant, lads I know have in their zx10's and they are fast as.

If I were building a bike from scratch be on my list for sure

The BPF's on the ZX10 are really good as is Carlo and being as ya not running the bike on Track then I'd just get the OEM front end fitted with weighted springs and go with your suspension tuning company of choice low budget 'fettle' for OEM forks which usually consists of better oil and some minor revalving.

Ktech valves, piston kit and spring set up is more than enough for most club racers so that'd be a proper alternative.... £600 all in and set up for your own requirements....
