    Hey everyone,

I have been looking round the forum for advice and seen 1 or 2 posts, but just need to get the low down on replacement front discs and pads. Mine are standard OEM and have been on since new, and last season just did not feel the 'bite' like before!

I have to watch the pennies a little, but heard you can get better then OEM and a bit cheaper too! I ride on the road mainly, not done a track day but never say never right! Straight off i have seen some EBC Vee discs and heard good things, also i read on here SBS Street Excel Sinter 809HS that are pretty dam good!!

If anyone could recommend some that they have actually used, or what the masses have heard about on their 2010 Blades, with an indication on prices that would be great. The rear disc and pads are completely shot, but i am not so worried about it as i only use the rear for low filtering. Have seen a good price for a Black Shadow disc, and same pads as above. Thanks in advance..

Changing my OEMs soon, my OEM discs are about 3mm!!( done nearly 50k) but are still working well, my mechanic is seriously shouting for an upgrade. SBS for pads is a no brainer, probably will go for Brembo Oros for discs.

Perhaps HPK for discs but for me that would be a overkill

If your not feeling the bite like you say! I would check if the pads are glazed or if the pistons are moving freely first as if you put new pads and discs on and the calipers aren't working properly you'll be no better off!

Costs nothing to check the calipers first and seeing if everything is moving freely! Also when was the fluid last changed

Mine are the originals from new, think they've just had it, yes i could give the pads a flat rub down with a corse sandpaper, but not a fan of doing that on a near 200 bp bike!
I've seen SBS mentioned here before in an old thread by D Dunlop, he was 100% sure on them.. I have looked and found his link for a full front set of Street Excel sintered for £37.. Think Brembo discs are just way outside my budget..

Cheers SPS, I have checked the calipers and all seem fine, checked the disc rings for free play and they are fine too.. an no leaks. When i was braking hard last season, you could hear this low down vveeeeeeee noise, that got slower as i slowed down, no vibrations its a non abs model, but sometimes i was aware they just, weren't as good. I will be replacing the brake fluid, but I'm not replacing my brake lines as i know that OEM lines are designed to flex slightly and give you that 'grab' feel, and HEL/Goodridge lines are rigid and have to warm right up, and heard riders say their brakes feel vague. When i first got the bike they were lovely, but 6 years on i think they are on their way out. Calipers will be checked over and serviced.

I've got a good spare used rear disc you're welcome to for the price of postage

I'd change the lines too if I was you!

If your on a budget I've got my second set of SBS Street Excels sintered, they have literally done 20 miles before all my Brembo callipers turned up, still got the original packaging, as new for £25 posted, I'm sure with these and a disc clean up and perhaps a bleed your be loving your brakes again.... There great pads and have already ordered some for the Brembos to replace the ZO4's...

Why change lines..? They look fine, not leaking in joints or cracking.. I want to keep my OEM lines anyway because any other make the brakes feel rigid, vague.

It's not the mileage but the age! Bike is 6 years old roughly from being bought registered could be another year older from being built, so between 6/7 year old brake lines with the outer being rubber which will degrade over time and hence flex when pressure is applied

Lines are also made to a budget

I cannot find any OEM lines, unless i go back to a steelers... Do your brakes need to be fully up to temperature before they are bitey, what do you have, a 2 line set up full lines from master cylinder to each calliper.. or over mudguard type?

Race set up which is two full lines, also easier to bleed
