Hi all, Gone to Mugello Motogp and around the bottom of Germany then up to Assen Motogp another time. Now looking for areas to go more North to Center of Germany, not sure if to stay at a central place and ride out each day or to moving on each day like we have, but then have to be loaded up all the time. Looking for a 6-7 day tour, any ideas as you always seem to through up good suggestions. Cheers in advance.
The areas around The nurburgring are fantastic, the B48, the B500, anywhere through the black forest.
Yes, that's been out route for the last two years, from SE London to Lille then to Gent to stay over, found a great hotel here. Then to the ring, onto Baden Baden and stay over there too. Looking to go in land more, maybe stay in a big city the some smaller ones too?
We've done Hanover, Düsseldorf, Leipzig...Düsseldorf is brilliant as a city, Very cosmopolitan, great food, loads of bars. The roads to get there are fantastic.... a bit of Autobahn and the rest A and B roads. Cheap too for a good hotel. It's a good run from BadenBaden.
I've based myself in the Trier area on a few occasions. In easy reach of the Mosel Valley and Cochem in one direction and Luxembourg in the other. Also an easy run from the ports. This year me and two pals are heading further South into the Black Forest although breaking up the journey both ways by stopping at a biker friendly hotel in Kyllburg, just North of Bitburg.
That will be a good trip this year for you riding around there. Just got to decide so we can all book time off .. Where did you stay and was there safe bike parking?
Unless it has massively changed over the last 20 years, in most parts of Germany (esp the Eiffel region) your bike is safe outside even with the ignition key left in it.
This is where we are staying for a night on the way down and way back. It's a sleepy, picturesque village but has a Pizzeria and also a Steak House within 200 yards of the hotel plus Bitburger beer ! There is a lock up bike store although as dessp2 says you could happily leave the bikes outside. http://www.mueller-kyllburg.de/english/
I know most places are but there are still people passing through anyway that will happily chuck your bike in the back of there van. So many thefts are down to Eastern Europeans, so always cautious.
THe Hartz mountains are meant to be really good - there is a Biker focused hotel Ride and BIKE magazine have used a few times. Sure google will locate it for you
No worries, hope the advice was of use whatever it was lol I'd love to ride to Mugello again, it really needs 2 weeks to do it justice / proper tour each way or you may as well fly if you're going to blast it on Motorway
Try and stop off in Cochem. Make sure you get a 'Spaghetti Ice' from the ice cream parlour on the corner. If you are stopping off in Cochem there are some great bars, the people are very friendly and they adore you if you attempt to order in German (even if you make a right hash of it). Have fun I can't wait to go back there.
Cochem does look a nice to stay, visit or ride through. That's the trouble, Germany's so big and vast it hard to decide where to next ?
Another option / idea is Bavaria / Southern Germany / Alps south of Munich or where BMW have their big rally each year (Garmisch Partenkirchen) http://www.gapa.de/BMW_motorbike_days You can also easily nip into Austria and perhaps do the Silvretta pass - for €10.50 for a run each way with lunch up at the lake etc. its a great day to spend on the bike http://www.dangerousroads.org/europe/austria/194-silvretta-high-alpine-road-austria.html http://www.alpentourer.com/alpine_passes/tyrol/bielerhoehe/bielerhoehe.html overnight in Cocham on the way down / back - you are right its a VERY big Country.
A week tomorrow and we are on the Hull-Rotterdam ferry. I'm now keeping a very close eye on the weather forecast ! Lunch on Sunday week in Cochem will be that much nicer in the sunshine ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
