I have done a quick search on here but could not come up with much info, I am about to change the rear tyre I have heard some pros and cons about fitting a 55 section rear as opposed to the 50, just interested if anyone has done this on a 2009 non ABS and what their thought and experiences are. Thanks in advance.
You didn't search to hard then? Non or ABS, all good either one. http://1000rr.co.uk/threads/190-55-on-c-abs-blade.29384/#post-409060
Oh come on. I'll see your "rear tyre 50 or 55" and raise you a "what fast road / trackday tyre" thread
Just to save you a bit of time, Geoff http://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/best-brake-pads.3904/ http://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/best-oil.25034/ http://1000rr.co.uk/threads/which-brake-fluid.19807/ http://1000rr.co.uk/threads/what-touring-gear.29341/
in a nutshell, the higher profile (55) while keeping the same section will give you a larger diameter tyre (= taller tyre). - taller tyre can sharpen the steering as your body weight is titled more forward (the rear is raised) - taller side wall can give you more flex which may result in more compliant/ softer suspension - taller tyre will affect the odometer calibration the big question is to what extend these are noticeable. If in doubt, just try it out. I think either tyre is good depending on your taste
55 profile tyre will actually make your speedo run more true! I've checked with both 50 and 55 with gps when I changed over 50 profile at 40mph on speedo gps showing 36mph 55 profile at 40mph on speedo gps showing 39mph
tyre diameter change has the same effect as changing the gearing in terms of true speed and speedo accuracy. I think it is a law that all speedos have to over read and they all do. I allow around to 10% for this to give me some idea of my true speed on the road in case I want to keep out of trouble. I am actually surprised to see a jump from 36 to 39 because the profile is only 1 size up
Yeah go the 55, they feels better, remember though that your tyre being larger circumference on a 55 means it lengthens the gearing a little giving a small increase in top speed but a slight drop in acceleration
Oh dear! This one really needs putting to bed now before someone starts pointing out the difference in rolling radius between a new tyre and a worn one....oh shit, I just have...bollocks!
