Morning all, I recently fitted a PCV but due to a knee injury, I haven't been able to ride, since last July.. Tonight, I managed 30mins, and was the first ride out, with the PCV taking control. I've noticed, that my fuel light stays on now, when the engine is running and after a couple of minutes, it goes out. I get the 0.0 miles flashing, and then it returns to standard mileage. Its only been like this since the PCV installation. Is this something which I should be concerned about? Its all connected properly and the bike felt strong tonight, wiith no issues, apart from the light. Just wondered why it would be doing this now. Thanks Wayne.
Could be a number of things tbh. Maybe a daft question but is the fuel tank full or got a good amount in it? Could be a trapped wire/maybe the earth isnt good enough? Could be the fuel gauge sender in the tank?
Possibility that 1 of the 2 connectors that plug in to the tank hasn't been connected properly. 1 is for the fuel pump and the other is for the level of I remember correctly.
Cheers guys. Robbo, the tank is full pal, which is what stumped me. But I'll lift the tank again and see if anything is a miss. Thanks lads. I'll see what I can see.
Well, popped the tank today and took off both the brown fuel pump plug and the black fuel reserve plug. Both looked fine, with no wires broken. Sprayed them with dewatering spray and plugged them back in. Connections to PCV are fine, but when I fired it up, and left it on idle, the fuel light stayed on for about a minute and then went out. Don't know whether I should get it looked at or not. Bike rides fine though. Not lumpy, full of fuel and the FI light isn't on.
Sounds like the fuel level connector wasn't connected properly then. When you fill up after the light is on it takes 30 secs or so before it registers that it has been filled again.
Colin, I think you might be a little mislead. I havent filled the tank. It was full from the last time I rode it.
You may not have filled the tank mate but what colin is saying is as far as the bikes concerned if there has been an issue with the fuel sender connection the bike now sees an electronic signal that says the tanks been filled and no longer in the reserve, it's then taken the bike about 30 secs to register this new full reading and turn your fuel light out!
Right, I see. So have I done something on putting it all back together then, to have this happen? Is there anything I can do to rectify it, and will the fuel light still work normally when it hits the reserve? I appreciate its a lot of questions, but just need to know whether I need it looking at. Thanks
You should be fine from now on. It's probably just the connection wasn't quite fully in from the last time. The fuel light will work as normal now.
