    Evening everyone

Having recently sold my bike im after a fireblade, I have a budget of £6500

after a 2008 onwards model.......from the digging online all ive managed to find is threads UK and USA suggesting 08 and 09 had possible crankshaft issues.....so i looked at a 2010 then read the abs can be abit of a pain.....
also threads on how amazing these bikes are in comparison to its rivals

can anyone clear this up for me on what they suggest is the right way for me to go.....what to look out for...what to avoid ect

    thank you

Most will say avoid abs, to a point some actually remove the system

2008 can burn a bit of oil, some do, some don't, know real pattern, mine uses 1/2 litre per 1500 miles so no big issue

Crankshaft can fail upto 10 plate, again rare

If you can afford, it's a 10 plate, but below this is no big concern

2 Recalls on 08 models coolant pipe and clutch give the reg to any Honda dealer to check to see if they have been done. Good that you know about the ABS issues so you can make an informed choice.

Crank issue was not actually resolved until 2011 bikes! So crank whine issue can affect 08, 09 and 2010 engines!

Honda did alter the 2010 crank by making it heavier than the 08 & 09 bikes but the whine issue which was to do with the case hardening Honda was doing on the crank was not addiquite or done correctly allowing the crank to distort and deteriorate starting with the whine sound then eventually destroying the crank gear teeth!

Shame, just traded my 12 plate for not much more money than your budget. I've had 3 08+ blades, and in my opinion stretch to the 12 if you can (although they are all very good) just keep some cash back for the inevitable shiny bits.

You will not have to stretch that budget much further to get a 2012, step on from the 08-11.

Think long and hard about your brake choice!!!!

I got a 2011 with under 12k and only two owners from honda main dealer for just over £6k. Only had it a few weeks and love it. There are some bargains out there. I got the black one, but there was a lovely black and white one for not much more. Same stats.
Hope you get one soon, experience not to be missed.....

I did get 2012 for £4k:), but it was cat D, with minimal damage but I mean minimal it cost me around £500 to put it back, using original second hand parts in matching colours and my labourer. It has on 5000miles on the clock.

    so should i favour a 2010 onwards rather than a 08 or 09?
because of the issues people have experienced....

You should be able to get a 2011 for that sort of money. By then the crank issue was resolved.

I've got a 09 plate. Bullet proof. Not experienced any issues. Check oil monthly - never had to top up. I get it serviced annually - goes like a bullet train.

New model coming out next year so 08-12 models are going to drop in price. May be worth holding out for an 2012 plate.
