Hi I'm replacing some naff grips on my 2007 Blade with originals. Do you have to buy new throttle tube or can you just buy the grips. Thanks
Should be just grips unless tube is damaged! Ease a long screwdriver between the grip and tube and work it round to break the glue seal. Then either use grip glue or hairspray to seal new ones
Thanks buddy....just got to find someone who supplies original grips and I'm away....why someone would put such naff grips on a lovely blade I'll never know. Chavs lol
If you use hairspray you have to work quite quickly. The idea is you use the spray when wet to help slip the grips on, the hairspray then goes tacky and acts as a glue.
I think you're missing the point with the hairspray. While it's wet it acts as a lube to slide the grip into place and once in place it acts as an adhesive to hold it there without the need for glues or lockwire.
I just cut the old grips off with a stanley, remove any old grip glue from the bars / tube, spray down the new grips with hairspray, slide 'em on, get everything lined up and then tie-wrap the grips in place for a day to make sure nothing budges while the hairspray sets.
Never in 35 years have I ever had to use glue or any kind of adhesive to stick my grips on! As long as both surfaces are free of anything slippery then you should be good to go..
Happened to a mate of mine whilst riding his Blackbird. The grip just came off in his hand while he was riding! I think I'll stick to the belt and braces approach
Just bought some Datatool heated grips, got them for £43 with the eBay offer yesterday. Do these fit the same as normal grips, both sides ?
