Anybody know what's best to use in the bike , normal unleaded or high octane ? Been told several conflicting stories . Ie high octane is best and gives great performance does the engine good Then heard bikes are not designed for high octane and it will not be good fort bike , ie pinking etc Also to stay away from supermarket fuel and buy from the big boys like Esso , Shell, bp Thoughts ?
heard plenty of fuel stories but I just fill up whenever I need to with whatever is closest & never had an issue
Higher octane petrol is capable of higher compression before spontaneous combustion. Since your engine is designed to compress 95 RON fuel it won't be compressing any harder with 98 RON and you'll gain no benefit. There is an argument that there are cleaning agents that are useful, but not sure it's worth it unless you have a really dirty engine.
I always use V Power, as some very, very anal Porsche owners swear by it, so for a few p extra, all bikes and cars get that. It would be interesting to see if there are any differences in dyno figures between fuels, does anyone know if this has been done?
I've never had a problem with fuel touch wood , interesting to know people's thoughts and what they use . I did see a car test which showed high octane fuel gave 5bhp more than standard fuel on
My pallid a mechanic and Hester's loads of bother on bikes that fuel at supermarkets with carbs injectors ect
Over the 5 years of owning my repsol I used both. Found I did get a little more MPG per tank from super. almost every ride. between 10-20 miles more on various rides but as fuel is much cheaper than it was I've been using Super more
Because they don't need to pay for fancy ads to convince you their fuel is better? Because they're happy to make a loss on it if it means you shop in the supermarket. Seriously folks, this stuff all comes from the same place - simply transported on a lorry to a different tank before it hits yours. You want better performance? Eat fewer donuts... You'll even save money!
Supermarket fuel I.e tesco contain a lot of ethanol which can damage plastic petrol tanks over time, as for octane higher the octane the less chance of early combustion/pinking that why you only use high octane with turbo charged engines.
Correct, my mate delivered fuel all over, comes out the same plant, is the same grade just goes to different providers but all the same stuff

Feel free to dislike this too.
Fuels are of different "Ron" 95, 97,99 etc each Ron should be the same regardless of where you buy it 95 Ron at say tesco should be the same as any other 95 Ron and so on as per legislation
so who is right who is Ron ? on a serious note for the bike its deffo normal unleaded, whatever ron that is....
All fuels are the same (not). but if that's the case then all oils are the same too and all tyres are ruber so there also the same so just buy the cheapest yes.
Does the bottle of coke you pay twice as much for in the branded petrol station give you more energy?
