After my crash at oulton which was on a brand new set of tyres (-1 warm up lap) it got me thinking... Do tyres really need scrubbing in? The reason I ask is.. I have a set of wets that have seen maybe 5 laps from new but are fairly old (front 2012 rear 2013) Got a brand new set that are a year old and not sure whether to put them on for olivers mount. Always got told stick em on warmers and dont worry. Is it different for wets to drys? What do you think? Only talking in terms of trackdays/racing. Cheeeeers
Know what you mean, does your head in mate.... But I've never had issue on new tyres.... In fact feel better when brand new to me. But goes against all sense going banzai on one lap tyres Don't know about wets though. I think your crash more to do with pushing on and colder temps than the tyres dude.
Never scrubbed a tyre in on track, just make sure they've sat hot on the warmers for a good long time and the pressures are right. I've also got to agree with Jimbo, cool day on first lap. It's likely that they just dropped a bit of temp whilst sat on the grid on a cool day so just needed a couple of corners to get back to temp.
My front went on third lap though.... Weirdest crash I've ever had. Just putting it down to one of those things and moving on. Lots of bikes went down, even more at thunder sport two weeks earlier at brands. UK and March weather don't go well for racing IMO
