I am a firm believer that motorcyclist are ripped off the the government (current, previous, past.. all) when it comes to road tax since the introduction of emission based RFL.
I would not be surprised if most bikes (unadulterated by their owners) would give a lower CO2 than 100 which would mean paying "£0".
In not too distant future, we will see electric bikes in the showrooms. Would they be road tax exempt?

Is an electric push bike technically a motor vehicle and as such should be taxed, MOT'ed and insured?

    what do you guys think?
    :)

Bikes are actually quite bad on emissions and if bike tax was based on emissions it would cost more to tax them.

Totally agree we're ripped off but I think the chances of any future electric sports bike etc being exempt is about the same as my chances of a massage by George Clooney :D

Electric bikes are already on the road! I did some road testing on them about 4 years ago

Hero electric motorcycles are sold by haslemere motorcycles in Borden

I think in the days of carbs, they had dirty engines. But with fuel injection this improved.
With catalytic converters (with its associate O2 sensor) post 2000, I thought the engines are very clean as they have to pass euro emission 1,2,3 and now 4.
As long as the fueling and emmission are not interfered with on the bike. More than once I have come across bikes on the road leaving a horrible smell of unburnt fuel in their trail.
In fact a couple of times I was following a bike; its engine was running so rich that the fumes from the rich mixture started to make me feel dizzy! Ok once I got passed and got some clean air:)
