Thinking of buying an Ex Ron Haslam Race School fireblade. Its a 2015 model with 3000 mls for £8500. They've obviously fitted it with new fairings and tyres. Cant see any gravel rash on underside, exhaust or pitting on the swing arm. Anyone had experience of buying an ex RH race bike? Part of me is unsure as it'll have been ragged to bits round Donnington. But surely that's what blades are designed for? I've had an ex RH 600RR in the past and had no issues as the bikes are looked after fairly well by the school. But a big part of me is unsure as its an ex race school bike.
If i remember correctly there was an article on a bikes magazine about it. They have mentioned paying attention to the engine as this is thrashed a lot so worth remembering. If you have a good mechanic take him with you just in case
I asked that very same question and the dealer replied that the bikes are inspected when they get shipped to dealers and Honda pay to repair anything that needs doing. The bikes (he said) are warmed up before each session at RH school so never thrashed cold. You also get a years warranty with it. I'd like to get feedback from someone who's done the elite (fireblade) course so they can inform me if the bikes are treated hard. I know the 600's getting a good thrashing as a couple of friends have done the 600 course.
Yes - the original panels and labelled and boxed away. The bike is fitted with race fairings and then when they send them off to dealers the original panels are put back on (that's why they look like new). I've seen two repsols and a blue/white/red HRC one at my local dealer
I wouldn't want one tbh but that is just my personal opinion. I know that they have not been raced but they wold have spent more time in the higher rev range than a normal road bike. if you buy a road bike, a 2015 would only have been ridden by one owner, but the school blade has been ridden by lots of different people. Not for me, but each to their own.
I'd rather spend 500 more and buy this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2015-Hond...053331?hash=item25b2c52093:g:t0AAAOSwp5JWaGCM
Hmm...i would agree with the above comments of buying something from elsewhere. If you want to buy it and use it only on the track then go for it. Otherwise ignore it. Personal opinion always. It is a risk mate...and you dont want any trouble and worries afterwards
Tbh you could buy a bike privately with low miles and everything looks fine, except the owner has taken the panels off and stuck track fairings on and ragged the arse off it on track and now got bored of it and stuck original fairings back on it and it's now for sale either privately or in some dealership
Wouldnt bother me being from RH Raceschool. One year warranty, well looked after bikes and you know the history. Only thing to remember if you do buy and later want to sell, it may be harder to sell on as people will have the same concerns you're having. I'd also be bartering on the price too.
I think that's an ex Ron Haslam bike as well. I got a 600RR from Castles and they get them for the RH school as well.
I think you are correct by looking at the tyres, correct tyre model and expected wear to that of race school usage.
A race school are not going to neglect their bikes, after all they are the tools of their trade, but at some point the bike have to have reached a point, where they are a possible liability to the school, i.e. the point at which they sell them. Just my opinion.
Would you know if the bike has been heavily repaired after a tumble ? You would if it was a road bike usually as it would be cat registered .. I personally would only buy if it was very very cheap.
Not really any different to a hire or leasing vehicle company, they keep them till certain age/mileage then at some point it's cheaper and more viable to sell on and buy new stock than allow vehicles to keep being used accruing extra depreciation and more service costs. It's luck of the draw really if any vehicle purchased will give nothing but grief but same can be said for even a brand new vehicle!
That's not enough of a saving on a bike that's had a working life. Anybody selling on here? A nice forum bike that's been treated like a lady will do you well
A mate of mine had a CBR600RR ex Haslam School from my local Honda dealer (in full knowledge) and it was a great bike and totally faultless for the several years that he owned it. It had the balance of the new bike warranty for peace of mind anyway. These bikes are well maintained, ridden as they should be, garaged every night and (very importantly) have never seen a salted road.
Very good pro's and con's comments. I think make a list of the two with the feedback you have had and hopefuly you will see the light From my point of view: Pro's: eddeby comment is very good I am not sure if the bikes are thrashed. Would you thrash a CBR 1000 during a race school sessions with all the insurance excesses, etc,.. I doubt it. Even if you tried, I am sure you would get told off" If it comes with a yar's warranty Can you pay a dealer for a full pre-purchase inspection (like the AA) Con's: the price is steep what does the warranty include Would you buy an ex motoring school or police car? And at what price?
