I've just had to fit a new battery to my 2011 blade; not bad after 5 years service. Before I took it off the bike I wanted to make a note of my HM plus SS quickshifter settings in case they got lost when battery was disconnected. However when I looked at the quickshifter display all was not well. The display was missing segments in the LCD. The quickshifter was purchased back in October 2014 when you may remember HM did the forum a special offer. I fitted the quickshifter during the winter whilst the bike was stripped down for a valve clearance check and the quickshifter was not actually tried out on the road until March 2015. Since March 2015 the bike has only done 1400 miles. I contacted HM by email and explained the quickshifter was obviously out of warranty but given the lack of actual use perhaps they could help. After a couple of days I got my answer which basically said it looks like a faulty display sent it back to us and we will tell you how much it will cost as its out of the 12 month warranty period. Considering the high cost of these units I would not have expected to have problems with it for many years to come let alone after one summer season of riding. Only one good thing the quickshifter still appears to be working correctly so I won't be giving HM any more of my hard earned cash just yet. Has anyone else had warranty dealings with HM? Cheers Steve
To be fair mate HM are very decent when it comes to after sales. Ping it back to them and see what they say.
Also you may find that after a run out the display will come back to full, as a lot of displays like that will partially disappear if left cold for a period of time.
I agree it is out of warranty but given the amount of use it has had I would have not expected to have any issues with it just yet. I would have hoped HM given their supposed good reputation to be concerned about a quality issue in a £500 shifter that has had minimal use. I guess I should send it back and then I can decide what to do. As I say it still works so unless I know it's not going to cost more money I not inclined to send it back.
But how can you complain that HM aren't willing to do anything about it if you don't send it back? Who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised - most people I know are when they deal with HM as their have a excellent reputation for helping out customers...
Had a drama last year with a batch of wiring looms from HM! Once they were informed they got on the case and sent out brand new complete units! Fabulous and was more than happy with the outcome. I would get on the case again and send the unit back to them directly.
You are right so I decided to take the quickshifter off. I gave it one last try and no change in the display so took the seat and tank cover off. I cut the ties off all of the slack cable and worked out I needed to lift the tank to reach the plug to the wiring loom. One last try of the ignition before delving any deeper and blow me the bloody thing worked perfectly. I'm still not sure what I did I don't think it was a crushed or bent cable but who cares it works. Thanks to those who contributed.
