Hi, hope I'm not going over old ground but I'd like your opinions on my first insurance.
I've bought an R7, value £5000. My quotes range from about £400 fully comp. then some around £600, then into the £000s.
I've never had a claim or conviction but it's my first bike for donkey's so I am grateful they'll even consider me on what I've bought.
The lowest quote is an outfit called Go Skippy, very basic fully comp cover but really all I need.... I think?
Obviously, with a car I get cover for peanuts due to my past, but for a bike I effectively have no past, though I got my licence in 1979.

My question: is there any catch with these budget quotes? The RAC want £1200, for example.

    Colin.

Recently used MCN compare for a quote for a new S1000RR,and Go Skippy was 2nd best quote and only a £250 excess. Never heard of them so a bit dubious like yourself. For £28 more I can get MCE with a £600 excess, prob go with them. The proof of a good insurance company is when it comes to paying out and how good their customer service is,something a lot of them are lacking.

Wouldn't touch MCE if they were last motorcycle insurance broker left. Have worked at senior level for the group and didn't like what is saw. Nothing dodgy or illegal just total focus on selling policies and add ons rather than providing customer service. Been with Bikesure for many years and have not had any issues with them so far. They are part of the Adrian Flux Group

I used Bennents for my first bike insurance, 45 and just pasted my test and paid under £300, bargain.
Renewal they wanted something stupid like £4,400.
Went next to Simply Ins and again got it for £300.
Then they was bought out by Principal Insurance and spoke to a broker there called Mike Sinclair, helpful biker type also, and got it for £280 and I've got 9 points now so can't moan really !!

Try Cornmarket insurance in Ireland. Been with them years, they beat your cheapest quote and use a reputable company (Covea I think mine is )

    Thanks for all your replies.
Your comments about focus on selling resonate with me.
They don't have to act illegally to be near impractical in getting compensation, come the time you try to enforce the contract.

Thanks for the replies. After reading the Trust Pilot stuff, on the cheaper quotes, I went with Bikesure.
