First proper ride today on my Blade. ive noticed the brakes are craps, No feel and huge lever action. I've got new Sbs pads and Hel lines, is it the calipers or master cylinder that's no good ? It's a non abs version
There the street Excel, It's not the pads as I've always used them on every bike I've had. There not spongy just wooden and lack feel compared to others.
I've just changed my brakes, master cylinder to a Brembo RCS one and put Brembo M4 Calipers also, as my brakes was rubbish. I think the master cylinder was the best improvement, as the feel was rubbish and could pull the lever back to the bar.
I'd clean the calipers first and bleed the lines again then if you stil feel there not at there best then look at possible changes
You either have air in the system or a seal in the master cylinder has gone Most likely the former. The brakes on the blade as standard are like most modern sportsbikes, pretty damn good. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
I have exactly the same problem with my 09 blade. I've replaced the caliper seals as one was poking out, cleaned the pots and bled the brake. Still got loads of travel and my over is on max. Goin get a Brembo rcs if I can as it must be the master cylinder.
That's a good price, I'm just waiting on my mate atm he might be chopping his bike in and I got dibs on his mc
If Michael Dunlop can lap the Mountain Course at 130+mhp on a superstock Blade then there can't be a lot wrong with the the standard master cylinder as it only had different discs and pads. The master cylinder remains standard. Just saying. Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
I bet his mc hasn't got 10000+ miles on and 7yrs old, there is excessive play in mine to the point where it's about 1" off the throttle and the lever is in max position. I'd like see anyone do a fast lap of the tt on my brakes
3. Brakes: Front and rear brake discs may be changed. Only ferrous materials are allowed for brake discs. Front and rear brake calipers may be changed. Front and rear brake pads may be changed. Front and rear master cylinders may be changed. Front and rear hydraulic brake lines may be changed. The split of the front brake lines for both front brake calipers must be made above the lower fork bridge (bottom yoke
My blade has 10 k miles on it and is 8 years old. The brake lever feel is firm with minimum travel back to the bar. Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
Sounds like you're trying to justify the upgrade, which obviously is up to you, it's your bike after all but from your initial post it sounds to me like your brakes just need a good service. I've owned 2 blades ( plus over 20 other bikes) and never found the blades brakes wanting ( for a road bike)
im not saying they dont stop you just that it lack feel and wooden. my R1 brake are superb same as the zx10r , it just not want im use to. Im trying to figure out if the issue is down to the cylinder or callipers.
