Just had my first ride out on my 09 blade with an ohlins ttx shock fitted which I got off a guy on here. I don't ride like a racer (I'm 60 now) but I could notice a difference mainly in the ride quality over bumpy surfaces,it seems to flow over them rather than bounce roughly as before. So I am now firmly in the replace that standard shock if you can afford it camp.
Cheaper upgrade is a 12 model year shock great improvement over the earlier one, if you don't want to stretch to an ohlins unit or similar
Get maxton / kais to re valve the 12 shock and re- spring to your weight, transforms the bike, they charge about £120 worth every penny.
Agreed... the 08-11 shock is dismal IMHO... the 12-16 shock is a superb upgrade and can be had for £150.
Mine made a huge difference just changing it, but then it had only done 1,000 miles and was a year old ... No doubt it would be even better with re-valve and spring change.
I contacted these this week . Kais charge £295 plus vat for that £90 for respring only Maxton £90 plus vat for respring .
Try MCT, just had my 2014 forks I bought off eBay serviced and re sprung. Great guys and thought price was reasonable too. Got a TTX now on the rear, but did chat with them about a 12 rear shock, they said is a leap forward compared to the 8-11 one but oil quality is rubbish and can be valves better. They have their own Cbr1000rr they test setups on so know our bikes well. Def worth a call.
I think for fork service, seals, bushes, springs, oil and set-up to my weight was £264 inc postage back also, which I thought wasn't bad. Asked what I used the bike for. Just wish had to take the bike there to set it up.
