    Hi Everyone.

As you can see by the title I am new to thing forum, not only that I have never been a member of a forum before. To be honest I am doing this to show my journey from a road blade to a track blade. I have no idea what I am really doing it is the first time I have really tried to do this many things to a bike that is more than changing an air filter maybe. I have meet so many great people in the bike community I am already happy for people to show or tell me what I am doing wrong and what to do next.

So currently I have part exchanged my road going CB1000R 2009 in for my dream bike the 2012 CBR1000RR. It is a Cat D and done 18,000 miles. (Only reason for cat D was the broken steering lock and missing keys)

I have already learnt a tone of things, don't ever buy a bike with very little technical knowledge like myself because it can turn out to be costly. Turns out it hadn't really been serviced much, so doing valve clearance and spark plugs as we speak. Fork seals where leaking and the rear shock and Leo Vince end can had taken a bit of a beating.

Whats been done in 2 weeks or so of owning it.

Stripped out of everything not needed (Lights, Subframes, Wiring, Battery etc)
New Keys (Nightmare with the HISS system but finally got it done)
Chain and Sprockets (Rental 520, 14/42 , DID chain)
Wheel bearings & seals, rear shock bearings & seals
Ohlins TTX MKII (Got a mega deal on a second hand one)
    New clutch cable
    GB racing engine covers
Fork rebuild and service by HM racing (Looking for a good second hand pair of Ohlins to match the rear)
Replaced bent fake Pazzo Levers with standard levers
    K&N race air filter
Bazzaz FI unit (The none TC version because I ran out of dollar at this point)
MotoHolders HRC subframes, front and back
Chain adjusters fitted with paddock bobbins
Spark plugs (NGK same as stock)
    Double bubble screen
    Diamond Rearsets
    Full HRC race fairings kit
    HRC quick action throttle
    Race fuel cap
Any crap rusted old bolts or nuts replaced with titanium pro-bolt

I am now stuck with with my next choose, what tyres to use for getting used to the bike on track?

Any suggestions would be great or if anyone can point me towards a good deal that would be great.
I will be using MotoGP digital dial tyre warmers on track and would like them to last a few track days so I can get used to the power jump from the 600r and the CB1000R to this bike.

Photos below are day I got it and where it is right now in it stage of rebuild.
I look forward to hearing all your feedback, suggestions and hopefully meeting some new people on track also.

    Cheers
    Lee

    Welcome to the forum.

Unless you have the money to get slicks, you can't go far wrong with the pirelli diablo supercorsa. It's track only so go for the SC (soft front medium rear) over the SP as it's a single compound and will perform slightly better. You should be getting about 4-5 days out of them at full whack (although when to change is totally subjective).

Those are definitely the tyre of choice whenever people start talking at track days at the moment.

Thanks to all that said welcome.

Thanks for the info, do you know any good deals on Pirelli SC's I can get around the London area? Or the best place to go is anyone knows one?

Welcome to the best forum !

I was in your shoes about 16mths ago and I've pretty much done the same as you've done (or in the middle of doing), with the exception of the wiring loom (it's on my list).

I've got Pirelli SC2 slicks on mine, and they seem OK.

I'd buy online and then get them fitted on track. Usually it's no more than £5 a wheel.

Why not just run road tyres on the bike till you get used to it?

That's what we ran on the trackbike, Michelin pilot road 4's which was on the bike when we bought it.
Fling the warmers on em and then take first lap round a lil easy then run as you wish.
Also means weathers not such a big issue for you either with road tyres and it saves you a few quid for actual track time or other stuff then you can step up to a more race paced tyre as your speed and confidence with the bike improves and the bank balance gets some more pennies in it!

The pr4's never gave any issues for us and we had run them at Donny twice in both hot sunny and mixed cold conditions, went round cadders in blistering hot sunshine last year, then switched to Metz racetecs for brands gp! ;)

Yeah would definitely recommend doing this if you're still finding your feet.
