For those that service their bikes themselves or have trusted friends do it, are you bothered about not having a stamp in your service books? Do you just make a note of whats been done and keep the receipts for the oil/filter etc?
I write in the service book. Serviced by self, then what I've done. What is the consensus on warranty issues with this method? Sure I've heard in some countries they can't void the warranty as long as you've used OEM parts? Is that the case in the UK?
Just bought the oil from Opie, going to take it into my local garage with the parts so i still get the stamp.
I do all my own servicing to my bikes. I keep all receipts/invoices for all service parts and write on them when the work was carried out, what the mileage was and it's all kept in a folder with all MOT certificates, V5C, Spare Keys, manuals etc. If you can prove the bike has been looked after then it's just as good as any stamp in book IMO.
First and only other owner of my 08 serviced it himself from new until I bought it in 2014 then he got it stamped by the Lloyds Honda dealer in Carlisle as he was got on well with the mechanics/servicing department. Would have still bought it even if the book didn't have any official stamps as I knew the owner. Even without knowing the owner you could tell he was a genuine bloke who carried out all the work just by viewing the bike. Garage laden with tools and photos of bikes he'd owned and overalls hanging from the wall. I have had it serviced a few times and forgotten to get the book stamped but paperwork to prove it should I ever sell up. No harm in stamping it yourself in handwriting if you're a genuine bloke, it'll come across when you sell it
Have always serviced my own bikes and as most people have said kept reciepts and stapled them in service book. My last bike a 2006 blackbird I had fom new it had 98000 miles on the clock when sold and never seen the inside of a dealers
