Some may have seen this but I only spotted it today I think I would give it a go. About £500ish, only seem to be available in Austrailia at the mo by the look of it.
Interesting how people invent new things! I wouldnt buy one as i am used to one piece helmet (safety reasons) so no thank you and good luck!!!
We had the rep come out to a local bike night and bring a few demo helmets for people to try on a have a play with. He also came out to one of the local bike roads and had a few helmets there for people to do test rides with. By all accounts they look and feel pretty good and are nice and quiet due to the fit. As far as safety goes, the clasp mechanism is bloody strong and the way it fits, there is no way it's coming off your head. It's also designed so in an accident it can be taken off for resuscitation without stressing your neck in case of spinal injury. Good on them for trying something different.
I use a Sena SMH-10R which is stuck on with velcro .... and it looks like it's the only BT comms system that's compatible
Fantastic idea. Getting a helmet off a critical and unconscious patient must be a nightmare for AnE staff. If a flip-front can pass the tests there's no reason this shouldn't. I reckon this will put chin strap helmets in the dustbin of history.
Flip front ones pass but are not as safe as a traditional helmet due to weak spots, if you want a helmet which comes off easy in a accident shoei xspirit has tabs that slide the cheek pads out
Caberg have the Duke, Trip Tourmax and Konda all flip fronts with sharp 5 star rating, Sharp list 10 aria helmets only one with five stars, Shoei only manage 3 out of 10 helmets with 5 stars. Sharp list 10 helmets for Caberg 7 0f which score 5 stars, Just food for thought.
When Shoei introduced their first flip front, I was actually in Japan at the factor at the time. They could not get it through the BSI 6658-85 accrediation that was the standard at the time as the hinged section failed to comply with the regs. It protruded excessively by something ike 0,0001mm So, it was sold as an open faced helmet as it passed that test with flying colours and the flip front was sold as an accessory whch was not subject to the same test. Having been involved in helmet development and testing with various factories for quite a few years, I personally would not wear this new design until it had proven itself in the real world, but then given the fact that with a flip front you stand a 75% greater chance of suffering a diffuse fracture to the base of the skull (broken neck to you and me), than with a conventional full face, you won't get me wearing a flip front either. Just my view for what its worth, which is not a lot.
I'd certainly have a closer look, good on them guys for thinking outside the box. Not sure about the shape though, chin bar looked a bit low. Sent from my SM-T320 using Tapatalk
Both Shoei and Arai have stated that Sharp is looking at very specific impacts, and other manufacturers design their helmets to pass these particular tests. Other testing which has a more rounded approach consistently places them above other manufacturers that have better Sharp scores.
When the Racers start using a new design then I'll take it seriously, until then...............................
