That is what I have been saying as well, about the new GSXR.

    • The ZX10R seems an amazing racing winning track bike, but power delivery seems all wrong for the road - massive power over 7k rpm.
    • The R1 has made big impressions on the global racing scene, but not really an everyday road bike (apparently a small battery that needs care )
    • The S1000RR is a bit dated, and a bit expensive
    • The GSXR could be a great road bike, and track bike, with the variable valve timing improving mid range power for road users whilst still be quick for the track - it looks good, got lots of techno stuff, and will probably be reasonable priced.

Reminds me, must get a copy of MCN to see what they have to say - any mention of the word "bulbous" and it is going in the bin !:D

Has the R1 made a big impression on the global scene?

    Nowhere in WSBK
    Nowhere in BSB
    Nowhere in World Endurance.

What racing are you watching Mattie?

Must admit I'm getting quite excited now. Not going to buy one .... yet. Wait a couple of years at least.

I like the back and front from what I've seen - not sure about the side fairings - look basic and don't cover the frame and body work for my tastes.

Looking forward to hearing about the gizmo's. Think the can looks ugly - but that's normally the 1st thing that's changed by each new owner.

Never at any point did I say I was a racer, I just find it laughable that some one can quote page Blar Blar of this mag or that book and slate a bike he's never ridden.

As for the s1000rr being dated? How so? It's been totally remodelled for 2015.

Some one said Bmw couldn't teach Honda any thing?

    My s1000rr abs works.

Agree its not made the waves that people expected on WSBK stage. But Josh Brookes won the 2015 BSB championship on a R1 (just). Also the GMT94 Yamaha Team shows well at World Endurance Level.

I think next year it has to show well at WSBK and BSB level or Yamaha will loose interest and pull out again. But with the new Honda and new Suzuki coming out in 2017 its going to have stiff competition.

To be pedantic, they are 4th in the current WEC, the Bol d'or was the first round of the current championship. Got me on last years with GMT94.
In BSB they are getting thrashed by the very old analogue fireblade.
As they say " you're only as good as your last race" ;)

All folk can do right now is say whether they like or dislike the look of the thing.
Nobody knows, other than Honda how the thing performs.
    Calm down ladies.
And only the GSXR seems to be lacking in the big competitions in good conditions.
Moto GP win was a fluke. ;)

    Nowhere in BSB ?

Josh Brookes is the BSB defending Champion. He had a stormer of a season on the Milwaukee Yamaha in 2015, when the current R1 was released.

    13 - wins
    4 - second places
    6 - third place

Amazing picture of him at going over the Mountain at Cadwell, who failed to see and remember that. It was a lovely looking bike as well, in the Milwaukee colours, looked superb. I think it fair to say that it made an impression.

It is just a team thing. I support Team Honda Fireblade, you support Team BMW S1000RR.

I have had to put up with the Fireblade being called old and boring, outdated, slow, and all the rest of it - on a Fireblade forum !!

Now with a bit of luck, with a new Fireblade, it will be my turn to do some taking the pi$$

    That is all it is.

As long as it's easier to strip fairings, headlights and remove rear pegs, then jobs a good un. My 2011 is a pig to work on and strip down.

Does look that way mate. Just look at the lower fairing. Back to the old way of a few bolts and job done to me.

Mattie, you are either Josh Brooke's stalker or you googled that lot.
It's a pity Milwaukee didn't take the Yam to WSBK in stead of going BMW, I think they would have had a better year
