There are lots of privacy reasons not to have a FB profile - FOC you just hit on one of them. Consequences to being on FB can be dire, some that can leave you exposed and vulnerable. Despite being able to utilise different privacy levels to protect yourself, many people still get caught out. I'm not scaremongering, would just advise caution before you sign up and get carried away. Social media can be very anti-social for some. Vulnerabilities include tagging, hacking, data tracking, spamming confidence tricksters, skeletons falling out of what were locked cupboards and stalking. I'm no expert (although I've had significant involvement with those that have fallen foul of the media scene) I know it's not all good. I've also had 'training days' from the experts and done case studies on 2 unfortunate souls whose lives got ruined by FB. Anyway, on that positive note - happy networking all! LOL Mick
Mick, man after my own heart. When I joined here I watched, listened, and pondered before really getting involved. I have noting to hide but if I had I would stay dark.
Forgot to mention that the company I work for advise and can invoke serious disciplinary procedures for anyone discussing work issues or even who you work for on social media.
Sound policy. Having something to hide is only part of the issue - the involvement I had with my staff had nothing to do with that aspect, they were exploited (as was one of their children) in other ways. There are so many unscrupulous abd dengerous individuals out there constantly looking to ruin peoples lives. The smallest misjudgement on the part of the data owner can leave them (and others) vulnerable. Sounds like I'm talking in riddles and I suppose to some extent I am, but I don't want to go into detail. Glad you escaped unscathed though!
A friend of mine had someone try & 'groom' her 15 year old daughter on Facebook. Luckily she had the sense to tell her mum & the person was reported.
Well I don't need a lot of sleep .. but earlier in the evening I had nodded off in the chair for a hour or so .. and then like Churchill with his power naps I can be awake for hours after that
Would love to be the person who brings down Facebook "the biggest human addiction since cocaine".......... ummmmmm now thats an idea !
