What is that plate over the frame hole... Bloody hideous. I'm not impressed, don't like the side fairing design and swinging arm and frame look the same.

The way I read it is that the base model will be comparable to the standard r1 and the sp model will be aimed at the r1m with the sp2 being a hrc race spec kit.

I opened my MCN this morning and thought I was reading a Honda advertising brochure.

Watched the video last night but honestly it didnt make me jump so before i make my judgement i need to see this in flesh next month at the NEC Birmingham. It is an interesting update but i am sure there will be many reviews to follow and where it actually fits with the likes of BMW, Kwak, Ducati, R1 and so on.

For the time being i will stick with mine

All well and good them going on about the SP and the SP2 but what about the base model? Silence makes me think it won't be all that great. Cheeky marketing which gives the impression that the SP is the new base model.

I'm with you mate, I'm still not seeing Base model, only mention SP and SP2. I won't be buying one anyway, can't justify anywhere near "new bike money" for what is basically my toy. I'll stick to 6 to 10 year old bike's like I always have!

Unfortunately I think Honda are up to something! Why only show the SP level bikes? Surely the model that will be bought by the masses should be the model you'd want to showcase first as these will be sold in most units? All well and good showing off bikes that will cost £20k and £25k but what about the bike that should cost £12-15k especially when you consider the BMW comes with active suspension for £15k

Sorry Mr Honda but to much smoke and mirrors

A base model is pure speculation from other people other than Honda , Honda themselves don't mention one . That's why I thought there were only 2 models .

They said there are more bikes to be unveiled over the coming months, I'm wondering if they will come with a new 600rr along with the new base model blade as Yamaha are about to display the new R6.

The SP's are out of my budget just can't justify spending that much on a bike being a family man. so far look wise I'm not that impressed, I shouldn't have to pay x amount of money for a new can because the original looks so shite, front end looks alright but side fairings or lack of, I don't really like. Maybe seeing one in person would change my mind, but so far I prefer the current blade shape over the new one.

Opinions Opinions, each to there own

Don't think so mate. I believe Honda are dropping the 600RR - little call for a supersport 600 any more. Sales of 600's are dropping. Japanese brands are more interested in the 250's, 300's and 500's - big markets for them in Asia and the far east.

I do think Honda will release a base model 1000RR and I think the spy shots shown prior to release yesterday is that model. The one with the basic looking forks and wheels. Hopefully it will carry over most of the new electronics but maybe ditch the active suspension and other race orientated bits to make it more "affordable".

I read that as well and that they have stopped producing the current engine, but as far as I'm aware, nothing came directly from Honda stating the 600rr is dead. I would of thought they would create a new 600rr as Yamaha, Honda's main rival is still continuing with the 600 super sport. I'm now interested in seeing what other bikes Honda has to offer as a affordable Fireblade is a must as well as another super sport below the 1000cc bracket. Either way for those buying a new 2017 model, there will be a few new bikes out there to choose from.

True. The price difference between a new 600RR and a new 1000RR is down to about £3K last time I checked. I think that's why Honda thought it wasn't worth it as sales in Europe and the UK have been poor compared to the 250 to 500cc sales In Asia and Far East.

Also Honda build the 600cc engines for Moto2 so that'll probably stop that as well as there isn't any development to be gained from Moto2/600cc. Hence the new 350 class in WSBK aimed at Asia the East which will probably lead to a change in CC in Moto2 as well.

Agree the 1000cc class is probably at its healthiest at the moment - new Blade, New R1, S1000RR, new GSXR, ZX10RR, etc etc

No different to the r1m in my eyes,2 years behind tho ,nice colour scheme but pricey compared to yam at 18k ,can't judge myself until I see it in the flesh just another excuse for a trip to Birmingham will make her indoors happy out of the way ,ogling at man toys or are the Brolly dollies there great. At least Yamaha put a bit of carbon on much sexier bike in my eyes but Honda are still number 1 tho image.jpeg
