Something got me thinking a couple of weeks back, I bought a CBR600RR track bike and the previous guy had fitted a set of £100 rearsets on it which is fine as they'll probably get smashed eventually anyway. They are really good, work well, comfy and offer plenty of grip. It got me wondering why people stump up £400 plus for them? I understand they are better looking or lighter or have a decent make stamped on them but am I missing anything else? Should cheap ones be avoided for your road bike and if so why? TIA
Had 2 sets of china brands Arashi which where great and another, both been used on road and track with no problems and i would recommend. Only thing i would say is replaced the bolt and the bolts are nasty nasty things. you may need a banjo pressure switch but only a 5 min job, PS the Dan Moto brand are crap !!
I had Diamond rearsets on my older blade and didn't like them, they are still sat in my shed. they didn't properly align the master cylinder so the rear brake wouldn't work properly and the pegs didn't feel very grippy. I'm just wondering why people pay for R&G or Gilles when there are much cheaper alternatives on the market or is it down to the brands which I myself am a fool for.
Quite often it is buy cheap by twice. Not always the case and always worth checking recent reviews before buying, bearing in mind that people with a problem shout a lot more than people who are happy, but at the same time some people are overly defensive of an item they have bought.
Thats interesting. How long ago was this? 2 mates just put sets on their 2016 s1000rr's are chuffed with them.
I had them on a 2011 Blade for about 6 months, when I changed the bike to a 2013 I left them off and ran the standard sets as they were much better. Maybe they're better on the S1000RR or i got a dodgy set, I've no idea, I just wasn't a fan.
I only road ride but my 2013 Blade was fine, but when i rode my mates 2016 SP it felt much more comfy. Anyway after a little research we found that the rearsets changed from 2014 and they are about 12mm or so further back. I managed to get a nearly new pair of 15 plate sets for 30 quid.
Thanks mate, I'll bear that in mind, they're not in a bad position actually but I don't like foldable pegs. I wonder if you can just change them?
It's always worth bearing in mind new model updates and it's effects. I got 13/14 Daytona standard sets for my Street Triple R. Guaranteed to fit and higher and further back than the STR ones.
I had a bad experience with cheap eBay levers on an old bike so when it came time to do the rearsets on my CBR I figured I rather not risk it. Went with Vortex and have been super happy with them, bought another set for the new bike too. Edit. Also handy knowing you can get replacement parts for the bigger brands.
Yeah that's true, I had a look for Vortex yesterday but couldn't find any? granted I only had a quick look on ebay.
I had Gilles on my blade but didn't really get on with them. Switched to pp racing rearsets and love them. Great customer service, really helpful with spares and great value, especially pre- Brexit! Incidentally, switching to a pressure brake light switch was a really easy fix and I'm not especially technical.
I get mine from ratedR performance over in Perth but the postage will probable kill you. I also get a fair bit off stuff from Riders Discount in the states and they are ridiculously helpful. Not sure how much postage etc would cost you.
Its not the postage that's too bad, its the import duty and you never know how much its going to be. The PP Racing ones look pretty good jgraham and at £250 are right in the middle.
If you've got a spare £500 and you're on first name terms with honda racing team manager Havier Beltran, have a think about these
