    Hi Chaps

Have looked high and low for a guide but in your opinion which blade is better ? I can see the 08 model seems more refined/lighter but that's not always a good thing.

Also are there key things that fail on each model that I should keep an eye out for during my search ?

    Thanks guys :)

The 08 is a different world compared to the 06. Literally better in every way. Some of the 08s were oil burners though so best keep an eye on that. They had fixed it by 09.

I've only ridden a 13 plate but I do believe they are similar to the 08 with slight improvements. I would get the RR8

Try checking inside the end of exhaust for excessive carbon deposit.

Go for the RR8 but if your budget can stretch a bit go for a rr9 Repsol;-)

How bad is the ABS issue on these blades, i can see quite a few posts but was it still quite rare in the big picture ?

Going by your user name you might be ok......but I prefer not to play Russian roulette with the stoppers.
According to Honda the brakes are faultless....they are that good they've been dropped for 2017 for the same Bosch system all the other manufacturers are using.

i borrowed my mates 05 blade and found that my wrists killed and i got pins and needles in my fingers after about an hour of riding on "b" roads. i bought a new shape blade and don't have that problem.

I'm thinking I'll need to go with an 08 blade and above as the 08 is only a few £1000 more then an 04-06 but your getting a big advance on spec :)

Thanks but I think a 2012 is pushing my budget too far also a 2012 for 6k means I'm getting a pretty worn out Blade, but a solid and modded 2008 could go for 6k :)

Fair enough - I wouldn't let higher miles put you off though - they are good for it. I'd much prefer the 2012 standard bike (fairing, clocks, wheels and most importantly suspension) to a modded earlier bike.

I did the same mate. Ummed and ahhed for a while then found a mint 08 plate with just 5k mile on and went for it.
It's a tricky decision choosing whether to go for a newer model or not. Depends on what you've come from.
On the road I can't fault it really. But on track I notice the newer litre bikes have the edge for sure.
For me, I like tinkering so I'm happy to spend time playing so went for the older model knowing I'd do a few things over time

Funny this question is asked. I met John McGuinnes recently, and a really nice bloke.
I asked him if he was going use his own money which of all the Blades he'd used would he choose. He said they'll all good bikes and the newer ones are more flickable but all round he'd pick an 06/07.
I asked why? He said he liked the stabity of that model and that it was quick enough.
    Just a bit of balance!
