like a Dufus I've gone and lost my last disc lock key. Not the end of the world as the bike is tucked up in the corner of the garage.....but, it's tucked up in the corner of the garage! Any ideas folks (pm if better) but it's a nearly new bike so I ain't go near with an angle grinder or hammer... Is there any easy options here, apart from finding the bloody key! How resilient are they to drilling the locks out?
Can you lift the front and remove the wheel as that would allow you to remove the offending disc in order to work on the lock away from the bike.
pick it!, if its a just a normal key i.e. not a circular one you can easily pick it. I used to pick locks just for fun, surprising how easy some are easily conquered Let me know an i'll PM you how to fashion a pick and torque. Dremel also is another option, it will slice through a lock albeit slowly but with precision so minimise the risk of collateral damage
Interesting.... Key will be like this as its a motrax lock. Can this be picked? PM if possible would be gratefully received!
Not easy, this is my last resort as its right up against the wall and any lifting has got "shiiiitttt!" Written all over it!
no experience of them unfortunately, but the following keys are a piece of piss to pick and wouldn't use them in anywhere where I would want to keep stuff!
can you get the bike to Liverpool ? park up opposite a café grab a coffee and give it about 30 mins someone will come along to remove it
Like the way you state, "Ive gone and lost my LAST Disc lock key" Inferring you've lost the other two keys over time and yet never bothered to replace them, but now you've lost the last one it's time to do sumat eh?
WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!! managed to borrow a few bits and took a brave pill. Never had the front wheel off before but the abba stand made it easy. Wheel out, disc off, plenty of covering up and Angle grinder out Didn't know what it was going to take, but turns out about 50 seconds!!! Anyway, happy days! Took the opportunity to fit that Honda racing carbon front mudguard I bought a year ago and some fetching orange rim tape.... Time for a well earned beer!
Great that you've got the disc lock off! Rim tape looks good but would do my head in not having both wheels the same
Thanks! Is that 4 agrees about the rim tape? I thought it looked pretty good given the paint has a heavy orange front end that faded out towards the back. I don't know, I guess I could try the rear tape on and see how it looks.
Took 50 seconds or less....with a cheap angle grinder! It's a motrax vishas Not sure how others perform but I'm going to look in to it. Worrying that with battery powered gear your bike could be taken off the street in less than a minute.
Even the best lock in the world only lasts 2minutes on a top of the range portable angle grinder, Wayne Winton on YouTube ( link below ) has done lots of tests on hundreds of locks...
