re-cover re-apolster pillion seat with rubber

I took my GF for a ride today.

She found it difficult to stay on the seat because its currently covered in pleather and her pants are very smooth, slippery cordura.

So I'm thinking to take the seat off and see if I can remove the pleather staples.

Then I'll cover the seat in rubber.

I could cover it in Gore-Tex. Its a very sticky rubber grid shape substance.
I could actually lay that over the pleather and then staple that under the seat as well. The gore tex is thin.

The other idea is to remove the pleather and then replace it with some yoga mat or some grippy rubber mat.

In addition to this she found it difficult to hold on to me when I was accelerating.

I might look into having some kind of handles on my chest. No idea on that one.

Nice bro. I'm not in UK, I'm in South Africa. I did some googling now. I didn't find any, so I'll probably just re-cover my pillion seat with some rubber. Luckily that cover in the pic looks like a yoga mat

Haha thanks for mentioning the old love handles haha. I forgot about those. I've not had a superbike for 6-7 years. I saw them once but my previous gf never complained about the seat on the prev bike

I bought a tank handle and love handles on eBay yesterday.
When I've got some free time I'll take the seat off and see what I can do with it.
I figure with both, she's got options and can change grip according to conditions. Changing positions is always good for preventing RSI and fatigue.

 

I have had the seat covering similar to the triboseat, It was good, it seems to be the same stuff they use in boats and caravans to stop things sliding about on tables. At the price they are charging if you can order one ready made this is far better.

picture of triboseat fitted fresh on today. Will be getting stapled and trimmed when I get chance little bit of a pain to fit I found just a pull cord round the edge but ill be trimming it off as it's a bloody snug fit on the rear fairing

 

How sticky is the triboseat rubber? Is it like a motorcycle tyre - sort of grippy
like a yoga mat - squishy and grippy
Gore Tex - tacky and super sticky

The triboseat pictures look like yoga mat rubber.

How do you guys find the grip on the triboseat? Does it leave anything to be desired or are you 100% happy with it?

 

It's weird uts not tacky as in stuff won't stick to it, but just a little pressure on it and you can't move it about with your hand. Have to lift it just to adjust it slightly. Had it on my old r6 that was the oxford grip sheet tho and just cut to shape and that was amazing. No movement at all once fitted.

 

I took the seat off the bike and cut a piece of gore-tex (sticky rubber grid) and I'm just going to tie it on underneath the seat with string... Soft-mod

Trim it up and run round the edge with a staple gun if you're happy with how it works. That looks very similar to the oxford stuff

 

Hey @CBRGav the staples are through the plastic. I don't have a hardcore staple gun. Work in progress pic above. I checked it still fits on the bike. It does. So I'll finish up.

Since taking the pics I decided to drill holes through the vertical pieces to be able to do it better and not have to run the string so far to give it something to anchor to.

Then I decided to split the string into single strands. However I didn't strength test it. They were too weak. Upon tying knots it breaks. So back to full twine.

Then best of all my girlfriend came home and she's "sewing" it now so I can do some work.

It's a bit of a fiddle. I wouldn't recommend it unless you can get your lady to do it or you're happy to take your time with it while "watching" series etc.

 

Oh yeah I did have a hard-core staple gun, tieing it on should do the same I'd have thought. Once the Mrs is sat on there it shouldn't move anyway. Looks good enough on the trial fit tho

 

All done Hopefully it fits. Dang she did a great job!

It would have been better to use black string. Or not cut it so close to the edges at the corners.

The string was visible from low angles from the sides, but now its 100% sorted after colouring it in with permanent marker. Luckily its fibre string, so it absorbed the ink well. Now its not noticeable at all.

 

looks good now its on mate. id have probably put the strap over the cover but dont look a miss over it to be honest

Funny. She opened the pockets on my jacket and hung onto those

My pockets do flap about 15cm forward and back. So the tank handle will be great when it arrives.

I'm thinking the tank handle will be best, but the love handles will be a nice secondary option, for her to be able to change in positions.

I'm thinking of getting a second bike some time. Some kind of adventure bike that can carry a lot of luggage and suited to long trips.

I'm only willing to do small comfort mods to this bike. Nothing that detracts from her beauty
