Afternoon everyone. I'm new here having just bought an RR4 last week and wanted to know what I should look out for on the bike? I heard about some factory electrical fault that Honda supposedly did a recall on this model? Any info would be appreciated.
Welcome to the Forum. I think this issue on that model was with the Rectifier? If you use the search facility it comes up with relevant info. Cheers, Ian.
As mentioned the rectifier has known issues, most would have probably been replaced by now I'd have thought, If you got paperwork with it, it may mention it. Not really issues but common thing people change, +2 on rear sprocket just to liven it up a little more, and a power commander just to help with the fuelling at low rev's around town. Enjoy
owned rr04 foir 2 years used everyday for comumute track days everything here is only one thigh to add for track i would add rear sets and great bike great handling
Wasn't the rectifier, it was the stator. Well known problem with them burning out. Apparently it was acknowledged by Honda in the States but not over here! Had mine from new and it failed after about 3 years. Cost me around £250 to have it sorted. Still own it and never had a problem since.
As above, it was the stator, however to fix the problem, the flywheel needs to be changed as well. Not cheap at Honda prices. First time it happened to me, I probably had one of the highest mileage 04 blades, so no one had heard of the problem, and got it rewired by West Country Windings. However not that long after it went again, but by this time Honda UK had heard of the problem and my local dealer replaced it free of charge, though it did cost me a battery. By now the bike was 5 years old, and had done 35k miles, think it went first time around 30k.
Ok that's sounds about right. Is it something Honda would still be doing for free donu know? Not likely I suppose.
Given the age now, I doubt it, but worth asking your local dealer if you are on friendly terms with them. Might also be worth trying Electrex, I believe they do a replacement set.
