Morning guys just wondering how you get on at mot's with your moto dynamic tail light's. Do you refit the standard indicators and do you have to make the brake light solid?
In the past I've removed the integrated light back to a standard set up to get through the mot, don't know anyone who got a mot with the integrated light on
I think it depends on the tester really. I had one on a 600 that failed but the same place sold my mrs a bike with an integrated light already fitted with a fresh MOT (?) She's going for an MOT next week so I guess we'll find out then. Or you could ask your tester before you go
I Got told on my old r6 if the tail light has you go out for the indicator to come on its a fail. Hence I've not yet bothered getting an integrated one. Considering it though as the day and g tail tidy had a separate bracket for the indicators so would be easy refit
I agree. I took mine for its MOT last week. I figured it wouldn't pass with the flashing back light so I set it not to flash. I didn't want to risk the chasing indicators either so set them just to flash. I wasn't surprised when it failed the MOT. I was given a sheet of paper that explains the rules. A chat to the Tester told me that if the indicators interfere with the brake lights, then it's a fail. I pointed out that the brake light only goes out on the side that is flashing, the other half the brake light remained on. To save any falling out I went home and put the standard indicators on, returning the next day for a free retest. It passed.
It does really depend on the test centre. The first MOT I had after fitting my MD tail light, I set it to standard mode before taking it, single flash brake and turn signal & it went straight through. Afterwards I spoke to him about it & he said it's more noticeable, so wouldn't fail it. I've now fitted HID angle eyes, but before I took the plunge, I asked the test centre about them regarding the MOT & it's all good.
On the back of the MD tail light, there should be a gromet, remove the gromet & underneath is a button. Push the button a couple times to toggle different settings. That was one of the main reason I chose that specific light. You should have got instructions with the light, if not, you can download them from the website.
I've spoken to 3 testers this morning. One said he's checking into it on Monday as there's certain audis with similar light systems fitted and he would like clarification. One said as long as the indicator doesn't cover more than 50% of the brake light when both are active, like when indicating and braking for a junction. And one said, (direct quote) "it wasn't fitted when you brought it in". So there you have it, clear as mud!
Had a MD unit before they started fitting the "Button" to change the flashing..... went through MOT no problem but I think its at the discretion of the Tester.
Think it's a bit Mike the non road exhaust, sombre let it slide others want standard can back on. I'm gonna get the md light I reckon through winter and just stick the indis back on for mot day
think the audi he'll mean the front where the drl(led) goes dim to show the indicator on the front, trouble on the back from what my tester said is its half the brake light that goes out. think im gona go down the route of making the indis as easy as poss to replace when i take them off over winter just incase i need replace them at test time
I have called four different MOT garages in the Gloucestershire area today and all agree that the integrated tail light is an immediate fail, and their recommended action is to reattach the stalk indicators and disconnect the indicator function from the motodynamic unit, leaving the brake light function active. I installed mine about two years ago and I can't remember there being a separate plug for the brake light action from the pulsing indicator function. Is this just my bad memory? Any advice how to get the motodynamic unit to work for the brake but not for the indicator function? Thanks guys, Martin
Just don't connect the indicator wires to the tail light unit. Leave your indicators connected the the bikes wiring loom. Assuming you can on your model. I bought mine last year and I can turn off the pulsing brake light as well as the chasing indicators. Hopefully you can do this with yours. I'm not sure when they introduced the programming button.
