Interesting. I have to bear In mind though that there's 8 years difference between our bikes and the Metzlers have probably been designed around a much younger suspension design than mine. That'll make the research a bit more interesting when the time comes.
Theres no way they are aimed at being track day tyres with road legel tread - those are the Pirelli Supercorsas. I'd say they are a fast road tyre with touring capabilities.. but thats opinion i suppose and each to their own. Should be fine for all year riding. @ the OP - you definitely felt a grease on the tyre?? Sometimes just cold stone cold tyres can really give you a fright, especially if they have been laid up for a while after riding as they will 'blue' slightly which is the oils within the tyre coming to the surface - I think - Sideways seems to be the man to know from his work experience.
My mate high sided his GSXR 6 2 months ago very slowly luckily, I told him to bring the bike to my house and I'd sort it out for him. I'm a massive believer that cleaning your bike is as important as servicing it it's a very important part of maintenance, as I keep telling him anyway. So first thing I did was roll his bike out to clean it before stripping it, the rear wheel/tyre was covered in a greasy black residue I had to degrease it thoroughly, I also noticed it on his belly pan etc. I have stripped his bike, cleaned it and repaired most of it pending a few parts being delivered, but I told him if it is oil or grease on my bike I'd notice it immediately as as they are so clean, anyway he's vouched to keep it clean now it's fixed and I have returned it to it's former glory!
Bloody good tip Benn. Did anybody see the 'Twist The Throttle' episode when they were at the Hamamatsu factory? They explained that this was the reason Japanese factory workers wear white overalls. The production line overseers can see any dirt on the clothing of the operators from a distance so they know there's a problem with the line at that point. Not rocket science. Mind you he also said that it takes approximately 3600 seconds to build a FireBlade. Approximately. Still a bit scary, the Japanese...
Less than that....lol Imo all new tyres are fairly good for the most of us.. If I never use a make/model of tyre again coz of one moment I would have none left to use...lol Give it a good wash with some fairy a quick burn out and jobs a good-un...
