The throttle response at low openings was terrible on the SP1 demo I tried, nothing to do with slack cable, just very poor development. James Hayden seemed to agree in this months Bike mag, see page 14. I do hope this won't be a repeat of the C-ABS problem and Honda once again being in denial.
Don't think that's exactly what he is trying to say. What he is saying is that the fuelling is shit, and it almost feels as if it has a slack throttle cable, if it had 1. Not the first or last time I think we will hear of the poor fuelling of the new Blade. Though most new bikes are pretty poor due to having to change over to ride by wire systems and the Euro 4 strangulations.
I've done quite a few miles now on the new SP and have to disagree, what engine maps did you have it set at?
SOrry should have mentioned fuelling at low revs issue when I set off was due to bike being on wrong ignition setting, disappeared as soon as I switched to full power 1 setting. And I think the throttle slack is more down to what you're used to, my RR6 has a little so I use it almost like a biting point but if I had no slack I'm sure I'd get used to it sharpish
I had it set on whatever the dealer had it set on. I was told it was on road settings. Maybe I should've messed about, but chose not to just in case I ended up in electronic oblivion. Perhaps I should ask for a retest?
I've tried mine on various power settings and can't say I've noticed much difference at low revs, am still running in so haven't tried WOT yet
yea road setting on honda manual will be Preset mode 3: power 5 (least responsive, least linear) Torque Control 8 and most engine breaking 3. if you do get a chance to retest in the dry Use Preset Mode 1 which is 1, 3, 1 I believe. or you can toddle User mode (2 of them) and take Torque control off (to 0) which also turn off anti wheelie.
They claim 162 bhp, performance bikes got 179 and Austin Racing got 175 so they either had a dodgy bike or weren't doing it right.
Theres actually a few different version of 2017 blade, the most noticeable difference being airbox and ECU which is flashed to comply different emission standard. (info from a website in HongKong which docoument some of the dealer training at Honda in Japan) Left is US, Right is EU Not saying they got a wrong spec bike but just FYI, I wonder if you could just flash the stock ECU with after market pipe? As most of you will know dyno will vary from a few factors like temp, humidity, o2 level, and also dyno number varys. and see their other video that talk about their dyno power varys.
Good post icedmind, but at the end of the day I'm not bothered how much bhp my 17blade has, it has more than enough for me and more than 95% of riders can use. I bought the 17blade because, For me it's the best, nicest to ride supersport road bike available, and I really like it. It's mentally fast and handles superbly.
Yes dyno figures vary wildly on all bikes, Best thing to use a dyno for imho is to set up your bike if you mod it
Those videos cover most if not all the newest sportsbikes, all on the same dyno albeit on different days so variable temp/humidity. As a comparison it must be fairly accurate. New s1000rr which is according to this vid down on power and tq over non euro4 version is quite a step ahead on peak power and torque. 5m30 comparison with blade Anyone buying from a dealer isnt going to miss 15hp, can only be an issue on track/racing where you may claw some back on the other bikes with removal of exhaust etc, plus the apparent weight advantage.
Yes the BMW is still ahead on powder compared to the blade, but it's also still a long way behind on build quality and reliability, I certainly would not keep one once it was out of warranty.
Build Quality & Reliability4 out of 5 Build-quality is superb and general reliability is excellent. You’ll find scare stories on forums, as well as occasional hiccups on previous model S1000RRs, but dealers are quick to react and rectify problems. http://www.motorcyclenews.com/bike-reviews/bmw/s1000rr/2015/
Absolute and utter rubbish, ask Andy on here how he got on the his BM, i kid you not when i tell you that even a dealer trying to sell me one admitted that build quality wasn't great..... Just go on the s1000rr forum and every single day members are reporting fault after fault....
don't believe what you read in that useles rag, I have spoken to dealers of Jap bikes that won't take BMW's as trade in unless they are still under warranty. As Matt said spend an hour on the S1k forum there's not a day goes by without another problem getting reported. You can't even clean one with mucoff because it will stain the frame. And as for the BMW dealers some of them are total arse holes. They will do their best not to pay for warranry work, ask a couple of the Guy's who's headlights melted because they sat in traffic.
I can't fault my bmw but out of the 3 dealers I've used only 1 was any good. One was that bad they wrote my bike off and I'm having to fight them in court. Washed it in acid or traffic film remover. Bmw uk are useless
