You mean float in the up / down movement surely? I.e. the calipers can be raised / lowered by 1-2mm with the bolts loose. I generally just push the pistons back into the caliper body then mount it all up with calipers loose on its bolts and pump the brakes to push the pads out on to the disc. I then lock the lever with a tie wrap and torque up the calipers to 33lbft.
That's how I have always done it. Whether it was done this way when head bearings done is another matter... regardless I still had the same vibration issue. Currently costing up new discs...
Dave moss says something later on in this video about bouncing the front to centralise the forks iirc. Maybes this could help eliminate it especially if it wasnt done by people who last installed the wheel.
Yeh also important to centralise forks, most people are pretty clueless, but there is a right and wrong way! Don't think it's related to this issue but certainly a good procedure to get right
In my experience this usually shows up as the brakes binding if not done properly ... the wheel has never spun so freely since the head bearings were done!
2000 miles out of these front bearings - they feel notchy as hell. All Balls Racing ! One side is fine - other is noisy.
Old OE bearings back in for now. Don't trust these All Balls Racing at all. I've just ordered SKF bearings to swap at next tyre change. Discs look fine although need cleaning up.
Stick with the jap bearings and you can't go wrong! If the all balls are grinding then that's them fecked! Do you pressure wash your bike? Once the water gets in and slowly washes away the little amount of grease these people use they will be finished quicker than you can say jack Robinson!! So to the point.... has it fixed the issue or are you just chasing your tale around??
The All Balls Racing were recommended on here which is why I fit them. I've put the originals back in for now and ordered SKF bearings. I'm in the process of cleaning up the discs with red scotchbrite which is a slow process then will fit tomorrow with new pads and align it all. I won't be to use the bike till Friday to see if the issue is gone. I suspect it will take 50-100 miles as well before it's all settled in to confirm. I do pressure wash my bikes - have done for over 10 years and never had an issue ... the original bearings are 25k and 7 years old and were fine ... so not sure what happened there ...
Come on get cleaning!!!!!! Your see in the 3rd picture how close the T-Drives run in the calliper body.... it's even closer the other side...
Mine will never be that clean you tart! It gets ridden hard and lots of miles ... I see your point about caliper body. I've a bit more space than that with the Oro's.
Oh don't worry mine gets a proper thrashing alright! But it never sees any water and gets a proper clean after every ride it's never seen a water hose or a bucket of soapy water in its life
30,000 miles here and used all year round hence the need to wash it. 27,000 miles in the last three years since I've had her. Still cleans up well though.
Priceless I'm still loving the bike that's the problem.... Your be the first to know when it's time... But you might be waiting a while as thinking of one last season next year
