Every other bike I've owned has 50 pence sight glass, check when cold but Honda oh no, what a feck on.
I just check it when I come back from a ride...let it cool for few minutes & then it's a 2 second job.... Honestly........you men....you don't half faff about
It's a right ball ache and find the longer you leave it to settle the better! As I guarantee you if you working on max level it will be over that after a few hours
Yep I never fill it to max, I've found if you just do it cold and it's over halfway then it's still ok with Honda's convoluted method.
hee hee - me too. I've had 2 blades MY08 and MY14 - never had an issue with oil levels. I have them serviced annually and when I do check the oil in between services it hardly ever moves
Good to know and I'd expect any modern bike to use virtually no oil, if you're unlucky enough to have one of the oil burners though it's a way more complicated checking process than it needs to be. Pfft, you'd sharp be complaining if you had to unscrew the top of your Dyson to see if it was full or not
how hard is it to use a dip stick ffs, how do you check the oil in your car they don't have sight glasses?
I think it comes in as a 7 on the Hard Scale...just a bit lower than filling the dishwasher correctly but not as high as putting the toilet seat down again
Yeah but you check cars cold, not after 3-5 minutes of running then 2-3 minutes of cooling, I'm not an engine Luddite btw, I've stripped down and rebuilt lots of engines, this just seems overly complicated for what it is and lends itself to overfilling which can fuck your engine just as effectively as too little oil.
Yeah it is a pain. Its not difficult to check but IMO its a little inconsistant and hard to read correctly. I leave the bike a good ten mins before I check the oil level after a ride. I do 3 checks and every time the oil is at a different level, even though the bike hasn't moved lol
I nearly dropped the Ducati when topping up the oil by trying to hold it upright, while crouched down to read the sight glass. Mrs kpone was then drafted in to read said glass, but the emotional stress of re-training her to report accurately what she could see in it proved way too dangerous ("CAN YOU SEE A FECKING BROWN LINE HALF WAY UP THE FECKING GLASS OR CAN'T YOU!!") So she was then employed to hold the bike off its stand (shudder)while I read it, which then evolved into... ("JUST LEAN AGAINST THE FECKING BIKE AND DON'T LET IT FECKING FALL ON ME!") Knowing that the bike would be damaged less by it dropping onto my lardy arse from this position. So I would take the dipstick approach every time because I can prep it, dip it, and read it while sitting on it, holding it upright, with only the occasional prolapsed disc as a consequence, rather than a charge of matricide.
