Hi folks. I’ll be buying a new set of tyres later in the year for my 08 and I was wondering what thoughts are between fitting a standard 50 profile or 55 rear tyre? I’ll not get into the brand of rubber convo as that’s a whole other can of worms (I’m between pilot power 3 and m7rr) but I’ve heard good things about switching to 55, making the bike more flickable in the corners. Is this true? I currently run a 50. Any experience would be welcomed.
Changed to a 55 last year and thought it made the handling a lot better. Bigger contact patch while over too.
Last year i got a 55 on my blade, after a year on the stock 50. On track and fast riding it is very much a upgrade, so much more flickable, agile etc. The bike does get a bit higher, but most wont notice. I am actually considering going back to 50 as i have retired my blade for track riding. Why? The 50 is not that tippy toey if you now what i mean, with the 55 the bike really wants to tip into corners, but with the 50 you have to muscle it a bit more. Everyone have their own opinion about it, but that is my 2 cents. That said nearly every sportbike these days comes with 55 profile, so i wonder why honda did not go the same route.
Interesting article in this week's MCN about 50s and 55s. Main agenda is that guys (apparently) can't get good track tyres in 50 profile.
