I’m contemplating a uk track day. Standard RR6 with slip on Akra. Not sure how many dB but it is loud. Anyone know what noise restrictions might apply to my bike?
The noise restriction will be set for the track, although some tracks have noisy days where the limits are higher. These will be the same for any bike, just applied at different revs. Are you able to ride yours there in advance to be measured?
Amazon have some cheap db meters. How do they test the noise? ...I mean practically shoving the meter at the end of the exhaust or holding it a certain distance from the side/rear of the bike?
It should be on the instructions in the kit. An emissions analyser goes into the exhaust, but decibels are generally read at a distance of about 1 metre at nominated revs (often around 3,000)
I've got a racefit growler 2 and I'm pretty certain it won't pass track day noise limits which is 102db (at Oulton). I got a db reader app and measured it with that in a similar way they do at track days. I know it might not be 100% accurate but I'm sure it's close. With the baffle in its below noise limits but I'm still worried so I've wrapped the baffle (the part that is hidden inside the exhaust) in a little exhaust packing and secured it with 4 stainless steel cable ties. Works a treat, bit daft I know buying a racefit and then dampening it down but needs must! !

The app is just something I got off the app store. Here is a pic of the exhaust wadding I got and an example of what I did with the baffle. (It's not my actual baffle)
I certainly wouldn't rely on an App on ya phone! A phones microphone is not designed for 100db + noise testing in the slightest! OP, just make sure you have a baffle for your exhaust, it'll be an expensive day out 4 U if your Bike fails and there's no refunds either! 1000cc Bikes are tested at 5500rpm and at 1m from end of ya Zorst. Other capacities have diff Rev limits but all measured at 1m.
So what else are 'ya' supposed to do if you're in 'ya' back garden and are curious how loud your exhaust is?? And yes we all know it won't be 100% accurate as stated in previous post, but the db reader I have reads up too 120 db and even if it's plus or minus 5 db's, it will give you some idea of a ball park figure. Don't think I said I was reliant on it either......or I wouldn't have adapted my baffle!
I recon you'd be fine, and I have plenty of experience, not just hearsay. The only places I've experienced people struggling is Snetterton and Donny has some drive by's that can be a ballache, this is of the tracks I know well. Save your money on the decibel-o-meter and get yourself a baffle. Most tracks you won't need it, but if you do have it in you shouldn't fail anywhere with an Akra. I have a full Akra system, Carbon, no cat etc.
Well........rode up to Oulton Park today to watch a few sessions of the No Limits track that was going on there and to get my exhaust (racefit with baffle) noise tested.......I can confirm that it failed miserably haha! 109 db at 5500 revs and the limit is 102 db. Will be sticking the stock exhaust back on when I go for real in May! Tell you what though I was itching to get on the track......especially when I was at the end of pit lane during the test, I was very tempted but I was wearing my bobble hat at the time!!
Ahh feck it - LOL I was gonna try that baffle + wadding out. Never mind, the exhaust swap is fairly quick to sort out and you'll be guaranteed of being within limits.
Has anyone passed the dB test at Oulton Park with a akrapovic megaphone titanium on a 14+ blade? Reading this thread I can see that @PauloHRC failed the test at Oulton with a racefit with baffle at 109db with the pass mark at 102db. Has anybody had a measurement from the megaphone (with or without baffle) of less than 102? I'm debating whether to buy the Akra or not. Thanks in advance.
