After much deliberation I decided to order a Puig light smoked screen for my RR7. I fitted it tonight and the bottom of the screen bulges out leaving a gap where it’s supposed to meet the sidelight (see pics). Anyone else encountered this and if so, is there any way to remedy it? Any Puig item I’ve had in the past has fitted like a glove. Disappointed!
I've had 2 but only in the 2015 and 2017. Both had a little tab at the bottom of the screen where it tucked in under the nose cone fairing. I'm guessing if it fits up flush against the light there's no way for them to fit a tab at the bottom??
No the sidelight lens has no lip for a tab to rest against even if there was one. It looks like I’m going to have to fill the gap with RTV silicone.
Refitted a screen to my RR7 a few days ago, not a Puig, and there was a lip at the bottom to slot behind the sidelight. Check my OEM one and that has one too.
Ah ok. I got one from a place in Wales for the 2017 Blade and when it arrived the tab at the bottom had been smashed off, was really difficult to spot at first. I originally noticed a little bit of plastic in the bottom of the bag. The way they had sent it out the packaging was terrible.
After a bit of digging I found this to be a common issue. It looks like the gap is intentional. Can this be true? Quote: That gap is there intentionally. it is to reduce the low pressure bubble that occurs behind the windscreen, this gap reduces drag at speed.
Sounds like over-scientific babble. Are the Moto GP bikes privy to this scientific revelation? If ever there's a case of reducing drag, surely Lorenzo's Ducati would have had a Puig screen to attain his reported 370 kmh at Mugello (2017). Maybe there will be a trend and we shall start taking off our OEM screens and re-jigging them with a gap. Sorry to be facetious, gcon45, but some statements defy logic. Like you, I would expect a renowned after-market product to fit perfectly.
Hmm, maybe I'm missing out with my perfectly fitting screen?! I think I'll keep the hacksaw away for now. I can see the logic behind it, but I'd have thought it would need to be adequately thick enough to not flex or vibrate at speed.
I've actually been trying to drill holes in my car windscreen this afternoon. Going for BIG gains in my Chev Lacetti!
