I recommended this to a member a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad he didn't buy it.

The more I looked, the more wanted it. Drove up to Wales and did the deal. Got delivered today.

5,000 miler. Runs a bit rough down low, but hasn't been used for a while. Put fresh fuel in, but little difference. Mid range and acceleration fine, but spluttery at low range and idle. Has a Power Commander that might need some fine tuning - or I'll give it another couple of runs after the weekend snow and see what happens.

On the way to a nice Collection Nigel, a tidy 92 model would fit in well?

    Thanks Raphael.

You are right, of course. Any serious 'collector' would have the first model. I am constrained by room though and don't want to rent space that is not secure.

Yes, they attract me too, especially as the first of the 1,000cc models.

The 'guys (and gal) with eyes' will note that the tail section is incomplete. It is the original standard exhaust, but the previous owner attached an R & G rear fender. By doing so, the black and silver heat shields cannot be fixed. (This was the subject of a post earlier in the week) So the end pipe was left with a bronze-coloured cap, which my good friend @PauloHRC labelled as 'untidy' or similar - he was right) So I've removed the bronze cap and it doesn't look half bad - save for a screw hole and a slot. I am fortunate to have the original fittings passed on by the previous owner.:)

Put an 8 X 6 plate on it today, before riding. Strangely, it feels more comfortable than my 2011 - but I can't figure why. I know there was a frame change - not significant - but significant enough that I have to get ANOTHER fitting kit for my ABBA stand.:(

Very nice bike , you will need rear foot pegs for an MOT Nigel unless your going to fit a seat cowl . and we all know there hard to find .Have you cleaned it or did you buy it like that .looks in really good Nick . Something satisfying about buying a really low mileage bike , less than 320 miles a year :)

Bloody ell Nigel......you really are getting a nice collection going!!

Really nice original example and even better when you get the original heat shields and bronze end cap back on the exhaust!!

So what's next on the tick list??!! ;)

It's okay; I've got them but already took them off. Plus, I have a Chinese cowl on the way. This will test my 'love' of the Chinese, because I am on record as saying their products are good (I have Chinese Bad Dog levers on my 2011)

Yes, Paul. No problem to me at all.

In fact, you ALMOST have the wit to be a 'Nige', but sadly fall a little short.:(:D

Tidy as our Welsh cousins say. ;)

It might be worth plugging a laptop into it to see what map's running, may need the standard map sticking on. Could be there's been a different exhaust on there at some point and they've got a different map installed.

Good point, DF. Been owned by an old fuddy duddy (2-years younger than me:)) for a number of years. The installation of the Power Commander reinforces your point. However, until I get up to speed with programs like ECU studio etc, I'll see if a few runs smooth it out. Otherwise, off to Blade Honda. (And I could see your good friend Griff, of course, but a tad far for basic stuff)

If you've got a laptop it's fairly easy to get the software and map from the Dynojet site. Then it's just a case of plugging in the USB lead. I'd guess the PC is under the seat in tail.

So, my Chinese cowl arrived today.

Verdict: Not bad but not 'concourse' in appearance. Fit is disappointing, but that might be the tail unit itself and not the cowl. Fit is tight and had to give it a far bash to get the latch to secure. Paint is plain gloss white - not 'Pearl'.

Looks fairly good, so for my purpose it's reasonable value over shelling out on OEM - if I could find one. Obviously I retain the pillion seat in good condition for pure originality.

Very nice, I had one just like that. If I remember they were subject to a recall on the speedo, most were done very early on, but I managed 8k miles before mine was done, might be worth trying to find if and when yours was done.
