Ta, hadn't caught up with that. Just read an old MCN report about it: https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/new-bikes/2004/june/2004-fireblade-recall/ Apparently, the best check is to do 2,000 revs in second gear and speedo should show 18 mph. Shame for me is that the tacho has a glitch and is stuck, and starts from 2,500 revs. It's on my 'To Do' list!!
I found exactly the same with my Chinese one. Hence why I searched high and low for an oem. Not sure how much you paid but on eBay they are around 20quid so you can’t grumble. Could get it sprayed to match the bike but no one will notice at a ton
Yeah, mk3, 20 quid including a fiver for fast delivery. Can't complain. Won't get it sprayed though. I reckon I'll be able to pluck one off the forum or eBay during my remaining, short life-span. I was surprised though that you managed to snaffle an OEM in blue. That was a good pickup - even though it cost you.
Tell me about it Nige. One mad week of hunting and found on Australian eBay of all places. You can still get them new in Australia for around $600au iirc about £400! The guy I bought mine off was a parts dealer who got one for a customer and his customer let him down and made my week! I’ve kept my horrible Chinese one to use on track days etc and if I want to mount a camera. They can be found you’ll just pay through the arse for one as anyone who has one seems to know they are like hens teeth!
£400 is outright opportunism and exploitation. I had to pay £302 for an MV one (which remains on back order) but most in the know tell me that if you want to own an Italian masterpiece you must pay for the privilege. As with yours, no one could justify a moulded piece of 12-inch square plastic costing those amounts. The only commodity that comes anywhere near as close is a damn Wedding Cake - and I'm frigged if I'm latching onto that malarkey ever again!!
It’ll do the job, looks good. I had a similar problem with finding a hugger in the colour I needed and wasn’t prepared to pay Honda money for a new one. Ended up buying one in blue for £25 (I needed red) and then had myself a little bodywork project. Worth keeping your eye out for a cheap cowl in any colour and then paint it up yourself. Or paint the Chinese one in pearl white?
Noted, and under control. I have a good shed and have recently reinforced the former sub-standard floor. I am in an end-of-terrace with narrow side access to my back yard, but as you can imagine, there is insufficient room to turn the bike through the single gate (even with mirrors turned in). Have already booked a contractor to put in a second gate, hopefully solving the problem.
