I want to remove crash bungs from my new RR4. Simple enough procedure, but to save me removing fairings, can anyone confirm that the mount they go into is a non-functional lug on the front of the motor? Obviously, I do not want to leave out a 'structural' bolt. (I suspect 04s are the same as later models for this) Pics show bung location on bike and physical size of bung. Apologise to any grammar police who might object to my naming one pic as 'bung hole'.
Why you removing them Nigel?? Won't you be left with an unsightly 'bung hole'? I presume the previous owner has cut the holes out himself? I'm also presuming that they use an engine mount to fix too, so you may want to put another bolt in there. I've only fitted crash bungs twice, once to a Gsxr 600 and also an R6. They were both engine bolt mounted.
Mine used the engine front mounting bolt, so you will need to replace the bolt, but i would leave them in in case you drop it?
Cheers Simon and Paul. Yes, I can now see that the bolts go through the frame, so it is VITAL that I either replace the bungs or buy new bolts. Call me a fool if you wish, but I prefer the look of a bung hole over the actual bungs themselves.
