I am seeking a harness style restraint for my daughter, she is 10 and as summer is nearing ever closer decided now she has a good perception of common sense to listen and buddy up with me for short leisurely commutes. Does anyone have experience of a good brand which clips around both riders so you are literally strapped together.
I did contemplate this to ward off the mentally challenged drivers who can sometimes make riding less enjoyable.
I have not found anything like a harness but I've been using similar to this with my lad since he was about 12; https://www.mcaleicester.co.uk/bike...ZsqDbZ7Gj0oFK7A0TLOGOSiAtEFc6ovwaAj3CEALw_wcB They do need to feel confident enough in their strength that they can hold on at first or even get used to when to hold on tighter; such as when you accelerate or brake. We started off with short trips so he could get used to being on the back, where to hold on and when to lean with the bike. The first couple of rides he was knackered from gripping white knuckle style, even though we were pootling along. I use leg taps to let him know when somethings coming, like a sharp corner, heavier braking or acceleration. Because his knees are up high I can just reach down and give his leg a quick tap so he knows to hold on tighter.
I wouldn't strap yourselves together, personally I think it would be more dangerous and if anything did happen your weight at xMPH could cause her her damage than sliding down the road after a fall. As @dainesefreak said build it up slowly and get a system that works for you both. My wife still uses love handles when on the back of me, and we have various ways of letting one another know stuff. Top tip for love handles is to make sure the buckle is on your back, that way if they come unclipped you the pillion won't be left holding onto a detached strap.
My daughter came out on back of me at 10 years old. Using pair of love handles with the handle in middle of my back so it stopped her moving forward and was obviously grips for accelerating too. She had a hand in the belt at the side and her handle, no issues. Last year was 11 and loves it now, handles are great. Did think about strapping her on but it's not right when you stop and slide forward she'd be on front seat
Funny you should say that, my boy's head fits both mine and the Mrs' helmets. Has done for the last couple of years.
Mrs is same height and size as 12 year old daughter already. Soon be smaller LMAO. Only ended up with intercom because sportsbikeshop had them on offer 140 quid for 2, I'm tight with unneeded extras
Handles it is then on the advice of barstewardsquad and I definitely think intercom are a future purchase. Just got to convince her to hang on a while longer as it is still a bit cold for me yet. I don't know who's worse for the love and enjoyment of motorbikes. However it is enjoyable to watch her mother's face when we are both watching the racing or attending bsb.
Sounds similar I only operate on two seasons in a year, get the bike out season and sod that too bloody cold.
Due to safety reasons, you'll be hard pushed to find any harnesses that'll strap both pillion & rider together. I've always used loves handles for both my daughters and never had a problem with them. The wife even uses them now when she's on the back. You can pick them up on eBay for under £10.
If only you'd started them earlier you could make use of this: https://www.louis-moto.co.uk/artike...0008400?list=ebc570cf9b6ffd9d277da19b5a5c6811
