So after a miss hap on my motocross bike at the weekend I've got several stitches under my knee cap have nicked the ligament attaching the knee cap and have strained ligaments on the side. Its sore, swollen and movement is limited to about 20 degrees. Does anyone know of any exercises to help gain movement without putting further strain on things? I only ask as I'm supposed to be doing a 4 day tour on my blade at Easter and at present I can only just sit on the bog never mind my bike. Not mega miles 700 to 800 depending on the weather but if I can I want to ride. The hospital wasn't much help after they had cleaned and stitched the wound. No advice on aftercare etc other than you will need the stitches taking out in 10 days. Think I will do that myself as I can do it in the time it would take to get in the car.
Wilbert, I'm sorry to hear about your injury. It's a major one. Sprains are tears of the ligament. Tears of soft tissue like muscle are strains. I'll assume the hospital staff meant a sprain, as it does have a specific technical meaning. Once the stitches are out, the hospital may then refer you to a physiotherapist. I would have expected them to tell you to ice the knee to remove swelling. In the past I have used a hot/cold pack to ice then heat the knee as the ice will tighten everything up, so the heat is used to free it up again. I would strongly advise you to not do any exercise until a physio or sports doctor advises you otherwise. You risk causing more, less reversible damage. I am a sports coach, not a medical professional in any way.
good advise rented don't want to sound like a party spoiler but having had knee & ligamnet problem (ending in keyhole surgery) all I can say is that it is a very slow recovery process. keep youself mobile without oveloading your joint I would also find out if sitting on the bike can affect the healing process
