hi just wondered if any one else has had this ? went out for my first time on it and when I got home there was oil all on the right side belly pan , exhaust , rear wheel and tyre and splats on the undertray , only done 125 miles on this , I have been told that some have a fault as there is no gasket , will changing the exhaust end can affect my warranty ? , thanks
Hi Keith. Shame to hear that. Reportedly (info from the USA forum) Honda don't use conventional gaskets any longer, choosing instead to run of bead of silicone/gel gasket on side casings. I suspect (perhaps an understatement) that there's a bad seal. It might not have shown up before due to short rides and maybe not reaching full temp. If not that, check your sump plug if you haven't already. You might have read that @PauloHRC had his left untightened by a dealer recently. Honda state that exhausts and end cans do not void warranty. well went out this morning and had to return home and this is the state of my bike and its all over my rear tyre , I'm not happy . come on Honda all this money for a bike and all this for a £3 gasket ?
That's obviously a bit crap. Can you see exactly where the oil is coming out? From the middle pick, that looks like quite a bit, and is it hitting the rear tyre and then splattering up the under-tail ?
its all over my exhaust as well , no I cant see but its probably coming from the engine case . but I don't want to remove the belly pan until ring a Honda dealer tomorrow.
Keith, I don't mean to infer you're an idiot, but are you sure it's oil and not coolant from the overflow? Certainly the belly pan pic looks oily, but I'm not sure about the accuracy of my monitor's colour reproduction.
Get it back to the dealer mate, start taking bits off to have a look they'll blame it on your error. Not worth the risk. My old ktm blew the bottom head gasket and that used ruin down the whine and up the back wheel and sides like this. Get them sort it, as you say the bikes cost enough they should be perfect. I'd let them clean it aswell
thanks , will do mate , would you ring the dealer you bought it off or the nearest Honda dealer as I am not to keen to ride it far while its throwing this all over the back wheel , and the fuckers best not charge me any money for this . and I cant even wash it as ive been waiting 3 month for the new fuel cap to be fitted .
Make sure the paint and plastic clean up properly aswell before you take it back. If the oil has gone over decals on the belly pan they might start peeling too.
Was the air filter swapped when the exhaust was done? Just wondering if the blow by gas return tube under the air box was dislodged - but that still seems like a lot of blow by oil.
no I just changed the end can , which was a clamp and that's it . it did this the other day when was the first time id rode it , so I thought I would get out today and its done it again , I also had it on paddock stands running and going through the gears but nothing after the first time this had happened .
i have a 2016 cbr1000rr wich developed a serious oil leak in the first 1000kms and then at 2000kms another. the first was the plug on the right side wich holds the oil pressure sensor and the second was the plug that sit right next to it (the blind one) both where loose with threads sealed very poorly. i did both up with blue locktite and they been fine since. now yours basically still has the same motor so i would check those plugs first.... it is apparently a common thingy.... honda has been cheap with sealant usage on them threads even tho it holds up to 6 bars of oil pressure on the inside... hope this helps...
