Hi all, I have a 2014 HRC blade and compared to my 2005 ZX10R it feels like the foot pegs are too far forward (almost chopper like). I am six foot tall and plan on riding 500 miles per day during my summer touring. I was wondering if anyone can recommend some rear sets for the bike so my feet are moved back quite some way (six inches maybe). Thanks.
Blimey, six inches is BIG (or so I've been led to believe ) I have heard the ZX10 has an aggressive riding position. I switch between my 2001 gixxer and the blade and find the blade feels more comfotable for me - I'm 6' 2" For rearsets, obviously Gilles do a nice set which I prefer because the adjustment does not look too busy with a dozens screws & bolts; then there is bonamici, lightec and the list goes on...though I must say I don't recall seeing any that have as much as a six inch rearward adjustment in the spec
Thanks for the advice and humour. I just reminded myself what 6 inches looks like and I'd say you're right that I was being optimistic. When it's right in front of you you do realise that nothing is going to be that adjustable! How does 3 inches sound? Anyway, for me the bike is not as comfortable as my 05 ZX10R was, which I could easily do 500 miles on in a day, yet I was suffering badly after a 350 mile round trip to the NW200 on Saturday. I feel that I am sitting upright too much and that my feet are too far in front of me when they should be below or behind me. Funnily, when I looked at the pics of the 2 bikes, the pegs and seat arrangement looked very similar. I'll look into the Gilles product although I noticed that the R&G equivalents look like they are multi-adjustable.
The comfort seat is good, but not 500 miles a day good. You'll find your self swapping bum cheeks at around 150 - 200
I doubt many spoetsbikes good on your bum for 500 miles a day if any bike,car or train for that matter
Was it 2014 they moved the pegs (sure it was up and forward) compared to the 13 models? I'm 6ft and mines pretty Damn comfy. I quite often do a full tank between stops. Much comfier than my mates 55 r1. Not sure if the older model pegs would fit the new frame, could be worth find one to have a sit on
They moved both the pegs & the bars, the position on 14+ is slightly more aggressive...I can feel quite a big difference from the older bikes. You're bent over more.
I said on here ages ago that I felt that my RR4 felt more comfortable than the later models. I wondered if it might have been all in my head. Good to hear a similar comment from you, Lozzy. I might go through my Owner's Manuals and see what dimensions I can come up with, although it'll probably stop short at 'wheelbase' and 'seat height'.
I wouldn't bother Nigel it's pretty boring...just a few mm's on pegs & same for bars forward & down I think. However although only a tiny difference you can certainly tell if you're tall like me.
Yes they moved the pegs back by 10mm and the bars moved lower and slightly forward. I found the 2014 to be comfortable although I did fit rear sets not to make it more comfortable, but to improve the ergonomics for my riding style.
What rear sets did you fit? I'm thinking of getting some black adjustable ones. Mainly to adjust for comfort if needed and aesthetic reasons
I've got LighTech rear sets recommended by Mr OCD, although he had the R version which has some nice red anodised parts and titanium bolts. They are really solid, well made and in my opinion look great fairly simple and not too fussy. A couple of things I found with them is the pegs are a bit shorter than the originals which took me a bit to get used to. Also something that may concern some people, I have mine at the lowest setting which is still higher than the originals, although it's perfect for me it may be an issue for someone who has long legs. Having said that one of the reasons in rear sets is to have the pegs higher. It's worth spending a bit of time doing some research on rear sets as it could be an expensive purchase to find out you don't get on with them.
Thanks...I'd been looking at the LightTech but the shorter pegs may cause me an issue regarding an old injury I have plus I've long legs, so that''s all handy to know, cheers....
