    Hello all.
My insurance renewal is due and I now have a problem. I am about to fit Akra Megaphone and already one company has said they wont insure the bike with it as it is not considered road legal (even though Honda fitted them to the SP). Many bikes on this forum have aftermarket exhausts, many not 'road legal', so how has anyone overcome this with insurance firms? Are there ones that cover, or are people economical with the truth, or just forget to mention it?
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers and have a great weekend.

Did they ask you what type of exhaust it was? Normally online it just wants to know about the level of performance increase.

    Which insurer/broker was this?

In answer to your question never lie to insurers, as it is they look for any chance to not pay out and will quite happily void your policy if they find out you lied.

I declared my Yoshi to MCE. No probs for them. Their only response is that in the event of a claim they would replace with standard.

Don’t really understand why they do that as a standard muffler from Honda is just shy of £1000 (prob about £30 on eBay :)), so aftermarket can would be loads cheaper.

Interesting. I guess there's a perception that standard is cheaper.

Does anyone here know if anybody has ever argued the point and successfully won against an insurer not paying out because of undeclared modifications? How can they have the nerve to hold back on payment because of something that had zero impact on your accident? Yes I know they can do whatever you agree to in the terms etc but some things just aren't cricket.

Just a small point, but if you are involved in a crash that is someone elses fault, it matters not anyway as you are claiming off the 3rd party insurers not your own.

So in simple terms in the event that you are involved in a non fault crash, you don't have to argue the point and as part of your special damages you can have the option of claiming for the cost of the aftermarket part of the OE part.

Just my two pennorth for what its worth.
