My 2015 blade is overdue an oil service as last done as it's not been done for 18 months (bikes only done 4k miles)

I have someone local (an ex bike mechanic) who will change it for me he said to get the oil and filter. So what should I be getting and from where?

I don't do many miles, been on the bike a couple of times this year and only did 2k last year and don't want to spend a fortune unnecessarily so thought i'd ask here.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I will only use genuine manufacturers oil filters and sump plug washers.
I would never by cheap on oil, especially on a high performance, high engine temp bike.

Search this forum for recommend oil,

You can cut corners in costs on other parts, But not on oil is my advice :)

Thanks for the replies. I had a look on M&P and was going to buy 4l of 10w30 Castrol 1 oil. Surely that's not cheap crappy oil? I was then going to get the champion oil filter. This was after putting in bike make and model and looking at the results.

I've always tended to go with OEM Oil filters unless the cost saving is worth going aftermarket. Think some of the aftermarket ones are just as good though. (one of them will probably manufacture the OEM ones).Sometimes it just easier to just pop and pick one up from the dealer or local bike shop if you've got one nearby rather than buying online, but online is probably the way to go to save cash.

Mine gets abused on track so it has either Silkolene Pro4 or Motul 300v in it, but as long as you have the right specification and weight it will be fine. Think there are loads of threads about oil :).

Opie oils sometimes have good deals on, i've had a batch of emails offering 15% off recently. They do filters too now.

My mate swears by the HIFLO filters.

motul 10w40 and hiflo race from ebay (2 wheels warehouse).

actually prefer the non race, not fussed about being able to lockwire the filter

Thanks for the replies and yes .204 was what my searches were coming up with so thanks for mentioning.

Also the bike manual says 10w30 so what risks are there changing to 10w40? I understand it's better in hot weather/high temps but there will be some of the original oil left in the bike so will it cause an issue when it mixes? I'm assuming not.

No problem with any remaining oil, will be a very small percentage and would be fine even as a 50/50 mix, infact ive read of people mixing 2 viscositys on purpose.

    Cant go wrong with either.

Cheers thanks for confirming. I will probably go for 10w40 then as we are in the middle of Summer.

All done this morning, the guy doing it for me had the oil and filter already so used a hiflo with Silkolene Pro 4 10w40 so i'm very happy and MOT booked in for Monday morning.

He did mention with it being 3 years old now he would recommend the brake fluid being changed. He wasn't sure on the ABS on my bike so I said i'd check on here if there is anything you need to know about changing the brake fluid on the ABS models?

2-4 hour procedure! IMO I would only let an experienced mechanic work on ABS.

Thanks sounds expensive too! He is a retired car/bike mechanic who used to own his own garage so I think that's what he was getting at in that ABS systems are very different and some more of a PITA that others to bleed. So he hadn't looked it up for my bike just said he recommends it getting done.

You can easily just bleed the conventional lines.

The ABS is fairly straight forward if you follow the procedures word for word, it just very convoluted and the front modulator is a total PITA due to access. I've done it many times and got it down to about hour but a garage would charge a few hours.

Thanks. I'll mention it to him next time I see him and see what he says, an oil change is one thing but the brake fluid sounds a lot of work so wouldn't want to take the pee asking him.
