Passed with no advisories, well not officially! He did mention it was a tad loud with a big smile on his face!! He's a very cool guy though and a fellow rider!
Yeah, I'm going to PM @PauloHRC to check if the MoT station will allow us to publish business details as a 'Suggested Tester'.
I've been told today that decat of new bikes won't be allowed under mot, it will be a fail. I think I heard them say from next year! Only applies to brand new bikes onwards. If it's right, the march of the fun police is continuing unabated
Fookin hell I'd rather hear a loud exhaust going past than a pneumatic drill outside my house for 8 hours , I've used these drills for work , they do ya fookin head in , maybe the drill should have an MOT too , and as for keeping the bike fuck em , how can a loud exhaust make any bike or car dangerous to ride or drive by the way mine is standard Hahaha
So does that mean they will be doing the full engine emissions test from 2019 with probe in the exhaust as they do with cars? Or just a visual check of the cat?
This will require an addition/amendment to the MoT Inspection Manual. Presently, the only exhaust requirements are for 'loose pipes' and 'noise', and then only by the very hazy assessment method of: '. . . the noise emitted from the motorcycle isn't clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar motorcycle with a standard silencer in average condition.' (We have spoken of this in other threads) There is also specific prohibition of cans marked with: ‘NOT FOR ROAD USE’, ‘TRACK USE ONLY’ or similar words (per some Yoshis) There could be a case that CAT removal falls under 'Unsafe Modification' but that depends upon whether the component is 'safety critical'. I think, @SimonRR you'd be right in suggesting a visual check, if indeed such a requirement is legislated. I do not believe that testers would be expected to purchase emissions analysers, but then again, when it comes to government decisions, who can safely predict anything!
I've got my stock 2011 can in a box too. Don't think I'll need it. The money I hand over to my dealer for MoTs (annual roadworthy test) and major servicing should see mine pass due to tester's discretion. If not, my business goes elsewhere.
Sadly I do expect an emissions test to become part of the MOT. I would also expect the Government to put the burden of the cost of the equipment on the garage, thus marking the end of the small bike garage doing MOTs. We can only hope that once we are past next March the Government has too much to do sorting out other laws to have time to introduce this.
Well read, BSS. And we all know this will lead to monopolisation in much the same manner as many small owner/traders have been ejected from the marketplace (echoing the plight of High Street retailers) by over-zealous pricing of the major players. Very rarely do we see the quality of service flow from these major players.
Ok so will have to wait and see what 2019 brings then, but if this does come through i might as well keep my R1 as my track bike and mod it even more, buy a pre 2019 Blade for my road bike...sorted
