Woke up to a bleak day and wanting to ride. I'm still a wuss when it comes to taking my good bikes out in weather. Whilst I love my sports bikes, I still yearn to rug up in waterproofs etc (like a REAL motorcyclist) and do Sunday trips and general runarounds. Going to scour eBay for an 'el cheapo' 500cc or maybe CBR600F or similar I can punt around on. Any suggestions for lower end of market bikes? I can't see myself going beyond Honda, but truthfully, I am so blind to other makes I could do myself a dis-service by not considering them.
Suzuki Sv600/650 Suzuki Bandit Honda CB500 Honda dullville (deauville) Yamaha YZF600 Thundercat I had 2 CBR600Fs. Loved them both but the problem is you would spend too much time cleaning them instead of riding them, and would probably just add it to your collection.
Get real!! I'd look like friggin' Humpty Dumpty on the damn thing. You just want me to buy @Dave dunlop 's recently advertised bike.
You are absolutely correct. That is my greatest fear. Look at this, for instance. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-cbr-600f/273397784010?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144 I just can't imagine it with road grime
You can't go wrong with a crf250/450 Although given the mileage the do, I'd go for the 250. Brilliant little go everywhere fun bike...you can hit those unnamed roads in all weathers but at the same just have a whiz out for your coffee and it'll get you thru the clogged main roads just as quick as anything else! Plus you don't care how dirty they get and they're easy to clean. I'd have another in a heartbeat. In fact I tried that newish crf250Rally last year, that would be spot on! Go have a test ride at your nearest dealer
You're well on the ball @Mattie660 . Have been looking at this, but I KNOW I couldn't lett it get dirty. BSS was dead right!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-VF...803770?hash=item41e9961e7a:g:wDkAAOSwwHpbaelg
You say 'el cheapo' run around, but you'll only end looking for a 'minter' as your OCD will not allow you to buy a scabby old dog with furred up bolts and a crusty chain!! Come on Nigel we know you better than that!
You're more than 24 hours late to the party. See @Barstewardsquad post of 10.17 am yesterday! But thanks, you ARE exactly right and that is a problem I face.
Erm that was today at 10.17am Nigel so by my calculation that's more like 8 hours late to the party, I'll put that down to your age/memory problems! But hey I've been busy catching up on moto gp and swiped straight passed barstewards comment!
Nige, Back in 2007 I had my brand new Repsol that I had in clinically clean condition and I bought a 1996 blade for the same reason. Within 24 hours of ownership I got the chain and sprockets replaced, not because they were worn just because they were dirty. Before I new it I had two bikes in NASA standards of cleanliness. The 1996 blade was brilliant though.
I thought you had ran out of space now Nigel? I agree with Lozzy, get a little scrambler. You won't have to worry as much about keeping it clean and there's no winter salt spread around the green lanes. If you need inspiration check out "the missenden flyer" on YouTube. He has a little crf250.
Rated-out CB750 ! Take a "horrible" old bike and spray it all matt black, cut bits of it off and weld bits of junk to it Never ever need to clean it, ever - it could be all covered in rust and shite Steer like crab. It could be a whole new experience in care free motorcycling Maybe something from here: https://www.bikeme.tv/index.php/go-the-rat/
