My RR7 makes a strange noise from the air box at that rev range like a resonance sort of thing , but I think its characteristic of the model, heard the same noise on a RR7 on YouTube at that rev range , don't worry about it , just rev it harder
I think there was a similar post about this sound although it was labelled "engine knocking". I think you are on the right track with chain & tensioner. try the 1000RR forum, someone had the problem and found out what it was
