hi all its coming up to that dreaded time to renew my policy , im insured with mce at the mo and it cost me £568 last year but they have changed there policy as being in a house is not classed as a locked garage , so I got 2 quotes mce £690 and I forgot the other company but it was £4443 lol , that's the only 2 I got on go compare site what you lads an lasses paying and who with ? I am 51 , over 10 years no claims .
MCE 579.00 for my SP2, with no years no claim bonus on that particular bike, but 40-plus history of no claims that wouldn't count. Mine is also in house, but had no issue with that as I purchased the bike on 22 March this year before the change. Try this one, I'm sure you'll fare better: https://www.mcncompare.com/cheapest...GVYHdWdDZ1nAR9RktrB26eH_gmNdoo0YaAhQAEALw_wcB
I was 25 last year brand new standard model with 7 years no claim was 1.4k insurance, a year on and 800quid; I do store mine in brick garage and that helped massively, check bikersure compare site and bemoto as well
I'd give BeMoto a call too. Mines a bit older but has loads of modifications and BeMoto were £170 cheaper than Bennetts for a multi bike policy this year. I think the BeMoto cover is better as they replace any modifcations like for like. they were really uncompetetive last year hence why I went with Bennett so not sure why they were so good this time.
I have found this with different insurers from time to time. When I challenged it, I was told it's to do with the underwriters who assess risk by area/age etc from recent claims. It might just have happened that there had been a few claims in your geographic area over the previous month which consequently increased the risk. This year, there'd been fewer or no claims. Works that way with home insurance also - have a few burgs in your area and your premium jumps even if you have alarms and CCTV.
Ive just got my bike and where I was getting quotes around the £400 mark at the beginning of August, come September new reg time and nobody is less than a grand!!!. Frustrating!! Bike stays at the dealers this week. I’ll give it another go next week.
Frustrating is not the word. That is horrendous. Probably no other reason than profiteering by capitalising on new sales insurance. Hope you fare better next week.
MCE new Ts&Cs are coming into force 1st October. Yes, they can move their goalposts. You should've had an email. I can't say for certain that they are retrospective. May be worth checking.
I did a web search for insurance before I got the new bike. £264 I was quoted. I'm 58 with 10+ years NCD earned on motorcycles. Bike is garaged using MCE definition of a garage. I rang up my insurance, MCE. To upgrade my insurance and was told it would be an extra £97 to take me to my current renewal date of Nov 28th. But I'd have an excess of £1500. I muted my disapproval of this XS as my current XS was £600. He then faffed about on his keyboard again and requoted £101 with an XS of £650. Everything we do these days should carry a pain in the arse warning. By the way. The actual premium is £61, there is an admin fee of £40. Robbing bastards.
Yes, got the email yesterday. I have a problem with the garage 'definition' because as many know, I have a few bikes 'inside' my home. Logic to most people would be that inside a home MUST be safer and of lesser risk because it is more occupied and therefore of a higher risk to a prospective burglar/thief. I also have CCTV sweeping the bikes. I may be crucified next renewal. In the meantime, my prolonged negotiations continue with Bemoto for a special Forum Members' Group Rate, but I am now beginning to wonder whether I am being given the gentle fob off with the excuse that 'decision makers' are still on holidays. On the 30th August I was told this: "Hi Nigel Just thought I’d drop you a quick note to let you know we haven’t forgotten about you – due to holidays across the business it’s been difficult to get the decision makers together in a room… I will hopefully be coming back to you in the next couple of weeks with a firm proposal of what we can offer you and your forum members, so watch this space!" The couple of weeks expires on Friday. This doesn't help us now, nor does it help with your current dilemma. Yep. They get us any way they can, which is why I'm gunning for a deal. The admin' fee of £40 is over the top and disproportionate to the few keystrokes made on computer. I was fuming about £15 fee for number plate change, but you've been outright shafted!!
I think when we have to go the laborious task of renewing we should start asking them all the questions. Like, how much is your policy change admin fee? Why isn't my house more secure than a remote garage? Why do you want to know that I fitted a tank pad? How do I know if the exhaust boosts performance, it was on when I got it? Why am I a greater risk if I change the tyres to non standard sizes. Why, why, why??? Gets my goat. Sorry to hijack the thread
I am getting the lowest quotes from 2 companies, express and bright side. Has anyone here used them? Most of the reviews are ok but knowing my luck....
Brightside showed up when I did the wife's insurance last week. They were the cheapest by about £6 but had never heard of them and so whilst I'm sure the underwriters would be the same as most of the other quotes I went with someone I had heard of.
In case anyone with hasn't received thr new terms yet here's the key facts. The term "which is your private property" could be interesting if you share a garage with someone besides family members. Also the having to tell them immediately about job changes could be a nice earner for them with the mid policy admin fee.
I am always amazed when I read these insurance threads. I pay under $70/month (under 55 quid) for full insurance on two bikes. My bikes are housed in an alarmed, locked and CCTV monitored garage that is attached to my house. I have my bikes insured with the same company, adding the new bike only added about $25/month to my policy. How can they justify the rates they charge in the UK? The only question I was asked was whether or not the bikes were garaged. There is a simple solution, fellas....move to the states. we have pie.
My bike costs about £165 to insure, whilst my Blade was around the £145 mark, and whilst the pie is tempting to a man who's been on a diet for 3 months the people of Walmart are far too scarey to risk moving to the Colonies
I firmly believe that MCE will now generate more profit from 'mid-term' adjustments than from premium commissions!
I agree. I have used them for a few years now and have always calculated this risk in my decision to renew with them at a price cheap enough to make it worth while. I rarely do mid-term quotes and indeed the last time I did was to notify them of a medical issue, and that time all they did was make a note on my account. With these sort of changes I think I will need to see their quotes as having an extra £40-80 to be paid later.
