I have just had a ridiculously low quote from MCE insurance on a CBR1000RR. What are they like as an insurance company ? Trustworthy ?
I have 5 bikes with them, but more through price than any other motive. The fine print might be a killer should any event happen. There is massive conjecture over the definition of 'garage' and there has recently been amendments to terms and conditions that harpoon those who make mid-term amendments. Have a read of this thread for more definitive info: https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/2017-sp-insurance.35940/ Having said that, though, I think it's a matter of exercising caution with whomever we insure. Edited to say: I haven't ever made a claim with them so I can't help in that regard.
I'm a tad older and am paying £128.00. £160 sounds quite reasonable - unless you have heaps of years No Claims.
Been cheapest for me by a large amount for years. Never had a claim but have been hit with an admin fee which they did discount down a bit.
I went with MCE this year as the price was way lower than any other quote, and it includes modifications and ncd protection etc. Make sure you read the T&C's and try not to make any amendments to the policy after you buy it.
They quoted me more than £200 more than what I paid with them last year on this renewal. When I called them to check it was all true and that I'd found cheaper elsewhere, they told me the quote online I'd got was the best they could do, wouldn't even attempt to price match.
as nigel said is is very very important to read the small prints. specially in the areas of: garaging definition of proximity to your house any declared anti theft device number of key you have to produce in case of theft what kind of parts they use for repairs who the underwriter is I have used MCE in the past; TBH they mostly use the same bunch of under-writers just take different commissions. Difficult to differentiate really between them (other than price) until you have to make a claim
gutted this is the quote I got on a 16 plate A single payment of £339.47 Instalments of 1 × £53.92 8 × £46.73 Total £427.76
Just a little something else to add that I've recently experienced with MCE, trying to get in touch with them was a real ball ache. On hold on the phone last week for around 10 mins waiting to get through, sent customer services an email to try and get proof of no claims but have had no reply a week later, the live chat also didn't work. Eventually got through after 5 mins on hold this morning, and in fairness to them, the email confirmation was sent out 5 mins later.
