Currently looking at a 2007 Repsol bike - here:
    https://www.motorcyclenews.com/bikes-for-sale/honda/cbr1000rr-fireblade/3571598/

Service history all seems good, 2 owner bike, sold through a Honda dealer.

Whilst doing the due diligence in MOT check online and road tax check online, noticed that on the DVLA system the bike is registered as BLUE.

Hmm - crash damaged and rebuilt with Repsol fairings maybe? Or is it possible that Repsol bikes got put into the system as any old colour when new as 'REPSOL orange/red/white combo" wasn't an option?

What might seem to back this up is that 2007 blue/yellow blades had a black frame, this bike has a silver one. So if it was a crash/repair from a blue bike - they've either changed the frame or sprayed it to silver.

So, what's the wisdom? This a red flag or not worth worrying about?

There's also this, which has lower mileage and seems in better condition - only it's up in Scotland, and lets face it - Repsol does trump Red/Black :)

My '16 Repsol is registered as orange, if that helps any. I would be very curious to see if any '07 owners chime in saying their bikes are reg as orange as well.

Just checked my Repsol on the gov web site, my 9 is listed as orange.
The bike you are considering buying looks stunning.

It looks legit to me mate. My 07/09 Repsols were both registered as Orange. Great bike by the way.

    Thanks for all the responses.

Another question whilst I’m here about general experiences of when to move up to a 1000...

Rode a bit of MX as a teenager, but only got licence in January this year. Got a Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer first off, now been riding a CBR650F since March. Done 3 levels of the California Superbike School and track days at Silverstone, Donington, Brands and most recently two at Bedford, where I was lapping 2.25s, which was somewhere in the middle of the inters speed wise (on the 90hp 650).

Too soon, or fine...? What’s other people’s experiences?

My feeling is that it's not all about the power of a bike; it is about the capabilities and sensibilities of the rider. It's not a huge jump from 650 to 1000, BUT, given you've done the CSS and track days, I'd say you're well-equipped to jump straight on the new bike and enjoy it. Only shame is that you might not be able to explore too much because of the next few months' weather.

Great in W. Midlands this morning though:D. I'm about to do a pre-ride clean, head out for a while, and then do a post-ride clean. (Only fellow members like @hitch and @Selmer50mark will understand me:).

My only surprise is that there isn’t a mid ride stop and polish session :D

I'd still be interested to see why this bike is reg as blue when all other Repsol's seem to be reg as orange.

I’m going to test ride it in half an hour - I’ll ask the dealer and see if they’ve got any kind of non-bullshit explanation!

I would second what @nigelrb said about it being more about your capabilities and machine control and given the fact you've had a bit of track time you should be fine. You'll need to be slightly more cautious on the road though.

Aside from that the bike is only as fast as you want it to go and that's all determined by the 'twist of the wrist' you could tootle around on it all day like a scooter if you wanted too!:D

    Just ask @Lozzy ;)

Mine was listed as blue on the V5 too.
It’s because blue is the only colour of paint on the bike (it’s a dark pearlescent blue) apart from the tank and wheels.
Everything else is just vinyl stickers.

Update on the bike- asked the sales manager about the V5 saying Blue and he said that was how they all came out of the Honda system? So if you put the code into the parts list that’s how it’s described - or something. Maybe someone can corroborate that.

Anyway, bike itself wasn’t in the best condition, been dropped hard on the RHS. Generally a bit tatty and hadn’t even had a clean in what seemed like years. Tyres were 2012 DRCs, front was cracked and looked weirdly squared off. Brakes weren’t good (new pads needed at least), but the engine and gearbox felt tight.

Had it for about an hour - obviously it’s bloody rapid, so much more torque than the 650, without even trying. Wasn’t mad on how it felt tipping in, that could easily be the old tyres and my unfamiliarity.

Riding position several notches more aggressive too than the 650 - I’m 6’1”, wrists and legs were ok but it was the neck that hurt. Felt like I was lying horizontal and had to bend my neck back 90 degrees to see forward. This a common thing or just me?

Anyway, I’m not mad on this specific bike, now working out whether it’s worth going to look at others - like that Scottish one... or whether I’d perhaps be comfier on something else... Decisions...

The RR-7 is like a sports tourer in terms of riding position compared to some of the latter blades!

I can beat that Nige. I can do a pre and post clean and don’t even do the riding bit.

That seems to corroborate what the sales guy was saying!
